Dr Who Micro Universe Figures
« on: December 31, 2007, 04:54:36 PM »
Ive just bought a box of 7 of these and very nice they are too!

I got Martha, 2 Daleks,  a Krillitane, a Slitheen, the Werewolf & a clockwork man.

They are softish plastic [think 20mm Esci etc], so should be able to take acrylic paints if prepped with PVA glue. However, the paintwork is not bad at all - not up to Lead Painters League standard, but good enough to play with straight away with no embarrassment [ ie about my level   ]. A quick black or brown wash would improve them instantly.

They are more realistically proportioned than eg Copplestone, so are more akin to Hasslefree in that respect. They are quite tall [well, they are listed as 35mm] but not excessively so. Martha is much shorter than the Clockwork Dude, he is 35mm and a couple of mm taller than Hasslefree's Riot Cop Neil, she is 30mm and about the same height as the Delectable Dionne.
Clocky is roughly the same height as Copplestone's Future War jungle troopers, but as I said, of slighter build. As most of the range are monsters, they should fit in well with 28mm figures for gaming. If we ignore  the male Human/Timelord figures' slightly tall & thin stature, they should also be very useful.

Martha fits in very well with both Malamute's and Heresy's Doctor figures, as do the Daleks who are slightly, but not excessively, larger than those in the series.

My fave is the Werewolf, who is a big, well animated fella and would have obvious uses in Gothic Horror, VSF etc games.

Overall, a big "thumbs-up" to these and at £9.99 for 7 decently painted figures, a real bargain.    :D  :o Guess what will be on my Birthday list

If anyone here lives in or around the West Midlands, they are available in Forbidden Planet in Brummagem. No spaceship  models yet, but they say they will have them soon!

Happy New Year!

Arrrgh! sorry. Can't do pics yet  :(  I believe it's possible to e-mail them to the Prof & for him to post them. If so, ill try and take some & e-mail them tomorrow.

I'm trying to get some sort of basic website sorted & work out how to get pics uploaded to it. When I do I'll be able to post pics like the clever people do.

Until then, the figures are on an Amazon.co.uk page;

They were in Scarborough Woolworths on Thursday.
7 figure packs were going quite fast, the 3 figure packs were moving a bit slower, but they cost £5
Other useful looking figures are the Cybermen & Judoon, Slitheen & Krillitane are quite neat aliens too.

The 7 figure packs also containa 6 sided "spinner" shaped like a Tardis console - should be useful for scenery conversions.

The spaceships were there but only 1 remained, and featured an out-of-scale spaceship with another figure. The ship looked ok but not sure what I would use one for so I'd have to sit back and consider that one.

Well, here goes! Apologies fo the blurred nature of some of the pics - well, it is New Year's Day after all and it's the first time I've used The Wife's new camera

Ive used Hasslefree's Donna & Kendra, Heresys Dr Hugh & a Copplestone Jungle Trooper to give idea of the figure sizes. I just wish I could find Malamute's Dr figure. He's somewhere on my painting table, but as that resembles Hong Kong in the rush hour, it's perhaps not surprising he's gone AWOL

One day i will even get around to finishing the painting & basing....  :(

Hopefully the pics are enough to show how good these new Who figures are & give a good idea of their fit with other popular ranges.

Cheers & Happy New Year!

They seem OK, size-wise. Oh, I just love those Hasslefree minis; I just have to get me some of those (I just have a small lead mountain from Copplestone to prepare for undercoating, fist).

Yes, I'm a recent convert to Hasslefree & spookily also have a load of Copplestone Future War stuff to paint

The plastic Dr Who figures look better with HF & Heresy etc , IMO, but will be OK with "chunkier" 28mm figs like Copplestone etc. I dont have any Foundry Street Violence yet, but I'm hoping they'll look OK too.

Someone did a size comparrison with the figs on the Doctor Who Miniatures Group. The Micro Daleks are almost identical in size to the Black Tree/ Harlequin Daleks. Can't wait to get my hand on some of them.
