Warg alternatives?
« on: February 21, 2012, 09:16:55 AM »
Hi,

I'm looking for some large wolves to use as wargs in an Angmar army.

Any suggestions?

Cheers.

My favorite large wolves are the ones from Gamezone. Large enough to be wargs and really nice sculpts in my opinion.
They sell them without the goblin riders:

in the weird wars folder you can find skrapwelder's threads where he's got these wolves in his german army, to get a sense of scale

The Otherworld Dire Wolves are pretty fantastic:

The GW Wargs are probably your cheapest bet though (apart from second hand stuff maybe) and are not that bad in my opinion:

Edit: Ramshackle games also has a pair of cheap resin wolves that are very large:

I second the Gamezone wolves as worthy candidates (they are big and mean-looking).   Also Tom Meier's Wolves are very nice.  Let us know what you decide.

Gee, the gamezone ones are cool. I myself stick to Otherworld. Like them a lot.

Just saw these posted on Frothers.  I know GW is bad but these wolves look pretty good.

I thik I have a collection of wolves from almost all better known manufacturers.

The Gamezone wolves are very nice but huge.
My favourites are the Otherworld, they look just right.

I see that no one has mentioned Thunderbolt Mountain, which is Tom Meier's own company:

Comes in two variants. As lovely as most things Mr Meier makes.

Also Tom Meier's Wolves are very nice.

 ;)

They are very nice though, I wasn't aware of them. They do look a bit smaller (more realistic in size) and I think they might go perfect with my old citadel wolves.

Thanks for sharing chaps, I might wait until I can get my hands the new space wolf wolves before I make a decision.

I need about ten so price and variation is a factor.

Cheers.

They're Fenrisian Wolves for GW's Space Wolves army. I like them, not really wolves, but that's the point. I'll probably pick some up to use as beasties of some kind.

I agree, these do have a nice otherworldly feeling about them. (I think its in the eyes and ears?) They might work nicely as fey wolfs in some wild hunt or the like.
