My sculpt (dwarf) has been cast :)
« on: 02 March 2012, 10:08:17 AM »
Recived this in the post this morning he he.

Thank you Ed :) (of Troll Forged Minis).

Bit of his coat missing which i'm sure Ed can fix the mold for

Also I know now not to use neat brownstuff for sculpting (as the original broke down in the mold (hence all the little brown spots which are bits of brownstuff (which I guess will go after a few spins)).

*please note that the head is from an open licence sprue from hasslefree miniatures - so thank you to Kev White too*

Anyway the important part :

Need to start painting one now :).

*Please note the sculpt is not PRESENTLY for sale Ed has a lot of new stuff that he is just waiting to finish his new spin-cast plastic machine for before he releases everything.

Is he a stunty (grym or whatever), looks a bit on the short and stocky side compared with the base? Looks nice though. I keep envisioning a burger in his right hand? :D

Hi, thanks for the comment.

He's a dwarf, yes.

Here is a scale shot of him next to a couple of privateer press dwarves before he was cast (and before the neck was sculpted).

So that means he'll eventually go on sale? That's good, as I wouldn't mind buying one.
I still think he'd be a good sheriff for a mining town with a cowboy hat and a badge added. Also needs something like a big, dumb looking Ogre deputy to accompany him.

Whats the background on these figures? Which game/genre (if any specific) are they for?

err... I like dwarves. I prefer dwarves with necks and knees.
I like steam punk and I love models with long coats.
I was sort of going with steampunk cowboys... though I know the gun isn't very steampunkish and the armour should really have bolts on it...
It was more of a "I want to sculpt this" than anything else.
If I could sculpt heads I would have done a lot more / finished more of them but i've been totally dissheartened by the fact that I absolutely cannot sculpt heads and there are not enough suitable heads in Hasslefree's open licence sprues suitable for dwarves.

So Genre wise I guess they are steampunk cowboys and girls. What would you use the for I have no idea lol. They would convert up for sci-fi post apoc games quite nicely. Might make a nice alternate Necromunda gang (If I ever sculpt enough of them). Any other ideas? lol

Nope, Troll Forged miniatures has moved away from its roots of casting up amatures sculpts and splitting the profits and is now just making their own stuff, so this guy is going nowhere.

I have one resin cast that could be recast, the original green was damaged during the process.

The whole idea / inspiration of attempting to sculpt this little set was with the hopes of having a little income rolling in (plus learning as I go), therefore when I finally realised nothing would come of it all inspiration stopped, I know that's not really the best reason for sculpting but it would have been nice to have a bit of extra hobby money now and again and perhaps be able to buy stuff brand new again as opposed to scouring eBay lol.

That's sad news Maxxev - they are really good looking sculpts, and I would certainly have got a set.  :'(

Nice minis, sad to hear you lost your possibility to get it cast. You could try casting it with room temperature curing resins and room temperature curing silcone molds, but  I would not recommend it.

Black Orc Games have an amateur mould/casting line called Mini Sculpt that they are still accepting models for.
Some great pieces, some not so great but all cast from submitted sculpts.

www.blackorc.com

Try dropping them a line to see if they can do something for your figures.

Fenris will make moulds and cast resin minis. Try Ian he might be able to help. Or Griffin miniatures, Si at pig iron uses them, my halo custom helmets were done there, very nice.

Really glad i cast my necromantic powers on this topic.
Love this group for the help and support it offers in times of need.
Don't give up Maxx, give these options a go. Let us know what is happening. Lets get that dwarf SOB the light he deserves and get him cast for sale. Never too late to strike a goal off your list. :-)
