Viking Pirates
« on: 05 March 2012, 03:52:22 PM »
Well, I seem to be going with the 9th/10/11thC Medieval theme so I thought it only right and proper that I put up a pic of a Viking Pirate unit seeing as they played such a dominant role in the warfare of the period!

This is the first version of this unit- there has been some re-basing and finally last year I started to organise the miniatures into different units. Painter and modeller's curse, always fidgiting and moving stuff about  lol.

If I can find the pics of the unit as it was re-based then I'll take some pics of the new units as they stand.

Fine looking figures.
May I ask, what rules do you plan to use?

Thanks  :).

They were painted a few years ago and were used with WAB. The unit has now been re-based with a 50mm depth and it is now possible to use it for Impetus as well is you take the models from the side and (although not striclty necessary) the back row as well. I'll post up some pics of the unit in it's current guise later on taday. i'd be interested to hear what folk think of the two different colour schemes.....?

Darrell.

What did you use for snow, Darrell? I have a slight urge to do some snowy bases...  :)

It's just run of the mill GW fake snow mate. I don't think it's how I'd go about it now though, just too stark a contrast with the ground. I did some Ardenne Germans and just drybrushed the bases with an off white- I think you may have seen the pics? I'll pop one up in the Second World War section if you're interested?

Darrell.

As promised here are the pics of the unit re-based.

I'd love to know what you all think of the comparison between the 'darker' basing style and the 'lighter' looking tertiary greys??? I'm very much in two minds as to what to go for at the end of the day.......  ???

I like the darker bases. Sets off the nice painting, while the gray seems to wash it out.
