28mm SYW/18th C. Black Powder at Cold Wars
« on: 05 March 2012, 08:36:42 PM »
Hello all,

Anyone going to Cold Wars this weekend, and who enjoys Imagi-nations or SYW style battles, I'll be running a "bring a brigade" 28mm Black Powder game this coming Saturday afternoon. It started as a WD3 forum idea, but it's certainly open to anyone. Here's a link to the battle report of a half size playtest last month:

http://fleisch-spatzlestadt.blogspot.com/2012/02/assault-on-llamastadt.html

The bring a brigade format is 4-5 units (24-30 infantry or 12-14 cavalry each for regular size units), plus 0-1 battalion guns if infantry, plus 0-1 field guns. Pre-reg spots will be provided brigades.

It’s not a historical battle, as Mid-18th C. Imagi-nation forces are welcome. We’ll stat and split up sides based on best match ups beyond the pre-reg Prussian, Austrian, and Saxon brigades.

Black Powder rules with most Last Argument of Kings additions for SYW/18th Century will be used. The event in the PEL is S-103 "The Clash at Llamastadt and Hobau 1755".

Any questions, drop me a PM.

Thanks,

Mike

Sounds like a fun-idea. Godd luck with your presentation... ;)
I really like Imaginations plus SYW or even WSS.

Thank you.

Gearing up for the game has had its side benefits.

One of the local gamers hadn't seen the Imagi-nations stuff until I recently sent him some links. I didn't know how much he liked the concept until then. He quickly rushed out and bought some of the plastic WSS figures and is painting them up in Austrian colors for the game this weekend.  He's done a great job on them from what I've seen already. And a few other folks that can't make the convention have expressed interest in the "bring a brigade" concept for our upcoming schedule of local weeknight gaming. That new interest has me reinvigorated into painting my big battalions.

Sounds like the way, we are going right now here in berlin.
We are three to four intrested people and for the last game, we took just the miniatures we had and played one of the Tabletop Teasers. The armys where a wild mi of french, prussians and austrians (SYW and WSS).

The game was real fun and had lots of atmosphere of the era.

Here a few pics if you allow the threadhijacking:

Sure. But only because those are great pictures.  ;)

That does look like a very fun game indeed!

I'll be posting a battle report following the convention this weekend.

As promised, battle report with pictures and maps is posted here:

Some other pictures:

Above is the view from the Austrian/Saxon/Anglo Left Flank.

Above is the view from the Prussian Left Flank.

A view from the Prussian line advancing on the defending Allies.  This part of the attack developed too late for the Prussians, and victory went to the Allies after 8 turns. They had held the line at the other points of attack on the flanks and other side of Llamastadt, having nullified or destroyed the Prussian threats in those locations.
