Turkish Platoons
« on: January 13, 2008, 07:46:35 PM »
Helen, (or anyone that can help)
I have suddenly gone from running a division level Middle East WWI game in two weeks to a skirmish level game using Price of Glory. Can anyone give me the structure of an "average" late war Turkish Platoon and HMG section?
In all my reference material I can't seem to find these simple facts.
Yours

Hi Scott, Interesting question as all references that I've seen only point to a company establishment. For my own interest and for others I've placed the same question on the Axis forum, but going by the company organisation for war I can at least provide the structure here and mention that I believe there are three possible platoons to the company.

At a guess the platoon was commanded by a Lieutentant and second lieutenants and had under their command two sergeants of which under their command would be the corporals. I'm speculating that each platoon had 6 sections broken into two subcommand groups lead by the sergeants.

I'll not provide the peace time establishment, but please remember that due to caualties and other impediments this manning would be reduced.

War Establishment:
Captain
Lieutenant
2x sub-lieutenants
Sergeant Major
Asst Sergeant Major
6x Sergeants
Musketry Sergeant
Musketry Corporal
Ambulance Corporal
4x Stretcher Bearers
18x Corporals
Storekeeper (corporal)
3x Officers' servants
4x Buglers
2x Tailor and shoe maker
Water carrier
Cook
216 riflemen

1x Water Cart and Horse

I hope this assists you in the interim.

Best Wishes
Best wishes,
Helen

Yeah, I have what seems to be the same company establishment list in  the "Turkish Army Handbook". That list says there were (if I'm remembering right) 210 rifles in the Wartime establishment, so around 11-12 other ranks per Section at full strength. I'm going to go with around 8 rifles,  plus an NCO, per section, for late war. Does this seem reasonable?
As always thanks for the help,
Scott

Hi Scott, no probs with the numbers. I'd see 12 riflemen plus a JNCO.

Best Wishes
