Tugboat
« on: 22 March 2012, 08:20:07 PM »
Well I've set off on another adventure involving plasticard, glue and putty for all the bloody gaps. Not entirely sure why a tugboat, there's bound to be plenty out there already available. But when does sense ever come into it. ;)

Well there's not much to show yet, the hull's basically all there and I'm planning to plank it up this evening. I've started the superstructure, it'll extend backwards for the funnel and winch and the bridge will go on top, probably.

Thanks, it's one of those things that drives you up the wall to actually do though  :)

Not much to report, the deck is planked and took way longer than expected, it is textured but you can't really see it, plus I'm not sure it's deep enough now and might have to go over it again, Yay!

Also some chaps to give an idea of scale, just because.

That is SMART! Please keep posting updates. Lovely work.

Don't worry about texture on the deck - unless you want to model it as if it's spalling away into lumps and splinters, there's probably enough. Remember, they would donkeystone the deck to keep it nice and shipshape!

Done a bit more work to the upper bits and the plan has changed, I'm now thinking two funnels will look better than one. The corners are going to be rounded off a bit and something needs to be done with the roof, looks silly being flat like that.

*edit*

Would help if someone remembered to add the photo.

What type of game are you planning to use this with?

Very nice tugboat start. If your not sure what direction you are going to take this, might I suggest a modern PA tug?

Cheers chaps, I've not thought about gaming with it yet, even though I've made it big enough to stick figures on  ;D enjoying the building it at the moment. As for the design, I'm trying to keep it generic modernish, but will admit to having the RMAS Dog class in the back of my mind while doing this.

I really think that this is a great project, and as many others here on LAF, great modeling skills on display.
However, considering that you have put so much time, money and effort in to this, why not go all the way, and actually buy some good looking portlights (the round windows). There are beutifully cast ones from various online boat model vendors.

Well I might end up casting the parts up in resin so I'd rather not have commercial bits on it, plus I already had the washers to hand  ;)
