Care to disclose your Africa skin recipe?

The African skin is very easy to do really as long as one thins his paints properly. I am using the Foundry Dusky flesh triad. First coat of Dusky A goes one full strength (i.e. thinned only enough for the paint to flow better). Second coat is obviously Dusky B which is applied as a highlight (this coat is thinned more - to a milk like consistency if that makes any sense). Final coat is Dusky C which I thin down to a wash and apply only to the highest parts of the figure and sparingly at that. That's it. Dead simples.

I have another African skin recipe I use which uses Bay brown but I save that for darker skinned fellows and in particular for my Mahdists.

What colour blue did you use on the uniforms, Did you use Foundry paints? Cheers Marc.

No mate for the blue I used a base of Vallejo Dark Prussian blue and highlighted with a mix of the former with vallejo stone grey (70 - 30% mix). For the final highlight I add a bit more stone grey into the former mix. Hope that helps.

Nice work on the flesh too. I've tried using the Dusky flesh triad in the past but did'nt like the result at all, the way you've done it though works so I'll be giving that ago too.

Thanks, dude. I've used the Dusky Flesh before, but I don't remember the results being so nice. Lovely stuff. Will have to revisit the triad.

Are these minis matt varnished already? What with? Amazing finish.

The figures are not yet varnished but I use the Windsor and Newton Galeria Matt varnish and it gives a lovely finish indeed (it's a brush on).

Yeah, I bought the Galeria Matt Varnish a few days ago. Nice stuff, but it dries a bit streaky on large surfaces.

Lads I am proud to present you with a COMPLETED!!! project!  

My Belgian Force Publique force for Darkest Africa. The force is based on the "In the Heart of Africa" ruleset army lists by Chris Peers. It works out to more than the max points but I like to have some choice. I may add a cannon in the future just for kicks and further variety. Another thought includes increasing the native musketeers given that the majority of Dhanis' troops in the war with the Arabs for eg. were indeed native allies. A Scout may also be added. But it's playable as it is and really that's enough to qualify it as finished.
