Building The Jim Damn E Silver Mine.
« on: 09 May 2012, 04:04:07 AM »
I have been on a little bit of a Western kick.
So decided to do a little battle from the movie, "Geronimo."
The scene from the Apache attack on the coppermine.
Only lasts about 2 minutes in the movie.
I decided to make the mine a silvermine.
So then I have to build it. Here's the start.

The styroform, cut and the bottom part glued to MDF board. I wanted it hollow as to put figures in it.
The top sets flat. Each of the pieces are 2 inches thick. So the height is only 4 inches. Total size is about 15 inches by 10 inches.

I use black spray paint to eat into the styroform, pretty much got the shape I wanted. With this being a wargame piece, I wanted some
fairly flat surface to set figures on.

Part II

Both pieces painted with dark brown paint.

When the paint dried, it was sprayed with Krylon" Make it Stone" textured paint. Then it was dried brushed with an off white paint.

The finished piece. A little grass added. Also the entrance had some wood glued on to dress it up.

Some shots of what the table will look like. Need to add a few things, (like figures). The game will be played on a larger table, so not all terrain was on the table.
Total time to make the mine, about 4 to 5 hours. I had alot for the stuff painted already. Hope you like it. OH, game will be played, 20 May, pics to follow.

Looking good, a very nice idea for a scenario

Very impressive!
I'm no fan of polystyrene at all, but you've done a very nice job of keeping it tidy and covering up the texture of it.

Excellent inspiration.  My buddies and I have the whole "town" thing down pat, but we're looking for some more wilderness style builds --- a mine would be awesome.
