Looking for 28mm scale plastic Soviet tanks.
« on: May 14, 2012, 07:15:34 AM »
I would just like to know if anybody knows a manufacturer that produces 28mm scale plastic Soviet Tanks (T34/76, T34/85, IS-2, T26, etc.). I don't like painting metal, and I'm not too keen on resin either.

The closest I've see are 1/72 scale from Plastic Soldier Company, Dragon, Hasegawa, etc., but nothing in the 28mm scale. My question is, how do they scale up to 28mm? If not I have to hunt for these elusive models.

If you are after plastic then try 1/48 ones from companies like Hobbyboss and Tamiya.
That's as close as you will get I think.

hobbyboss do a nice range russian stuff, well priced to. I know it's 1/48 but when figures are on bases it scales well imo

Tamiya produces the T34/76, T34/85, KV-1, KV-2, SU122 an a brand new IS-2.
Hobby Boss T34, KV-1 and KV-2 in many variants.
There is also a company named Bandai which had the T34/76 an a SU85 in their program. There are out of production but still available on ebay.

There are no T26 and other light tanks in 1/48 plastic at the moment. I have a T26 in 1/56 metal. It is in reality to small in comparison to the KV-1 and KV-2 but it looks quiet good on the table when light tanks are smaller models and big are bigger.

You won't find any 1:56th vehicles in plastic yet, because no-one makes them so far. You can either go to the over-sized 1:48th, or very under-sized 1:72nd. The only option for 1:56th is either resin or metal, or a combination.

Thanks for the info. I'm getting myself the Hobby Boss 1/48 scale T34/76 and T34/85. It's the best that I can do for now.

Hobbymaster do a JS2, its plastic but I think they call it diecast. Its kind of prepainted and decaled but you can easily re prime and go.Believe its 1/48 or 1/50.I have the King Tiger and its definite 1/48 anyway.
