Where to find ship dock scenery?
« on: 02 February 2008, 04:41:21 AM »
Can anyone point me to retailers of scenery that would go with your typical caribean island ship dock scene? I'm putting together 28mm scale Pirate scene.

Specifically, I'd like to get some crates. (Barrels was easy enough to find.) Netting, rope, etc. would be nice to get as well.

Thanks!

While I normally hate getting the "Just make it yourself" reply when asking this type of questions, in this case ropes and nets really are simple to make out of ordinary household materials (string and gauze, dipped in watered-down PVA glue). This is what I'm doing with my own dockside terrain project. But I also have some of that Ainsty trader stuff, and I'll vouch for it's quality.

In retrospect - doing roped and crates yourself isn't that hard - you're right!  However having seen what Aintsy offers, my head is exploding with new/more ideas. And for that I owe you - thanks!

If you're looking for piers and docks ...

Although I haven't seen it first hand, I hear the Lemax piers look good with 28 mm scale miniatures. Shipping outside the states is a killer though (also, you can often find it cheap in clearance bins at craft stores).

Their catalog lists the sizes of the pieces ... so you can get some idea at the scale (

Some of the wooden mooring might be interesting too (especially the kind you can cut the birds off of easily).

Beautiful! I'm fortunate enough to make a few trips to the US every year, so perhaps I'll be able to skip posting these to the UK. I notice that the 'small wooden wharf' is stated to have a height of 2inches/5.2cm - that's sounds about right for 25 - 28mm scale models.

They also stock an "Ocean Display Mat" - think grass terrain mat, but more water... ;-)  Could be useful for all those Pirates of the Spanish Main stuff I have...

Thanks!
