So, let's just suppose a chap was to consider embarking on a spot of WW1 fantasy gaming, what other figures are out there? .....and please don't say loads because I've got no self-control or willpower

Wessex Games have a lovely range, Gnomes, Orcs and Dwarves.

I have all the Akula WW1 range, very, very nice range, highly recommended. I can't wait to get some Gobbos too!

There's quite a few Fantasy 20th century mechanised warfare ranges out there. I blend them up a bit, shake a little fantasy into there and see what happens.
