Hey, it worked in the A-10 :)

Good Point.

As much as I near-hate GW, These were funny to see.

If they make it, the gamers will buy it?

Perhaps.

I've seen some pretty bad miniatures sell successfully in the 1970's/980's.

Just saying let the market decide...

Gracias,

Glenn

Guess I'm strange.I preordered 2 of the marine flyers and 2 stromravens from The Warstore
.I have a couple of landspeeders(regular and the stretch version) and some nonGW jetbikes.Putting them all together for a aircav type army. Not for 40k.Not real sure what for actually. The troops will be Copplestone troopers.
I think if you use the marine stuff as more like "floaters/hovercraft" they are more "believable".Like they are too un aerodynamic to actually fly.

I'm with fitterpete on this, I also view them as helicopter/hover type aircraft (especially the Storm Talon).

The thought that these are supposed to be capable of flying from space to earth and back again is a bit of a stretch to be honest... especially with turbine engines and a complete disregard for aerodynamics (not to mention the stuck-on bits that would melt away)... and yes, I am aware that it is sci-fi but I do like a certain amount of plausible design ;) .

I think that the forgeworld conversion for the storm raven makes a much better craft and it proves that even though the base model is a bit... Fisher Price, with a little bit of modification, you can get something quite presentable.

well, if I am ever going to make my ramshackle games sourced ork speed-freak army my bomber will be build with the looks of a A-10, always loved the things don't know why I never thought of it before I have no idea. Probably have to use the actual GW model or some aircraft model as a base tough, ramshackle isn't the best for aircraft as far as I know.

I'm guilty of liking the Space Marine flyer. It's believable enough as a sluggish, ludicrously overgunned combat hoverer that would probably need to be transported to combat zones on the back of a truck, although it does suffer from the GW design issue of putting guns in weird places. While it doesn't look especially manouverable the Stormraven model from a year or two ago only looks capable of flight with a Forge World upgrade kit!

Summary- sort of believable as a hoverer, totally preposterous if it's expected to look like a fast-mover like the Necron and Ork craft.

Also, a down-gunned model would make a nice police hoverer for cyberpunk settings- I could imagine a huge searchlight under its chin and a loudspeaker telling me to put my hands in the air.

I actually really like the Necron flying thingie; although I'm not sure if its because its reminiscent of the Cylon raiders from BSG. Still I imagine that it could be used for many a ufo if that is your bag.

Cheers
Andy

I like the Necron flyer, maybe with a little modification. Think its also down to BSG.

It is growing on me.

I've been having similar thoughts.

Mind you, my Space Wolves won't have the option of using one "officially" anyway, so it'd be a scenario thing.

Don't forget they have grav-repulsor tech in the far future, which would make all of our preconceptions about aerodynamics pretty redundant  ;) (I like to think that you just switch the anti-grav on the thing lifts itself, like an untethered air ship...)

Looking at it again and again, I can see me lengthening the body by 7.5cms, adding an open troop area, (a la Bell Heuy hog), losing the las cannons and potentially keeping the chaingun nose cannon but maybe swopping out the current oversized ones for something a little smaller.

That gives me a derivative future modern/sci-fi helo for use with HALO, my Aliens project, Deus Ex, (if stealth jet black or police colours, damn might need two!) amongst other things.

He posted it on the first page already. But it bear repeating. It does look a lot better that way I do agree.

Well since my Space Wolves wont either it seems, it begs the question. Who will be able to use this model running SM forces?

The sace marine one looks like it might be really good as a 15mm shuttle of some sort. you might have to make some changes to make it in scale. but if you get rid of the guns, it should work.
