Katana - sold thru Old Glory. It's got skirmish rules and small scale unit rules and seems to capture the feel of the period.

I am, of course, a fan of Bushido - though it's japanese fantasy, not historical.

If you are up for handling the historical part, you could give Brink of Battle a go.  You can read more about it at our website www.brinkofbattle.com

There's a Samurai version of the LotR SBG at this Yahoo group:

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/LOTRvariants/

It works well, and does a good job of getting the flavour right.

Probably not much help :P, but back in the day really enjoyed a set called Shogun (Samurai Skirmish rules) by Bear Rules - no idea if they're still available though.

Did a quick search for it, & stumbled across this free pfd for consideration (haven't played it though)

Have you used this rule set before? Is it good? Anyone else use this set want to chime in? It seems like a great deal if it does what it claims to do. Plus, it appears that they have some Sci-Fi rules too.

I got BoB the other week, while I must say they look like a solid set of rules (good mix of detail and playability) but putting them forward everytime someone wants a specific rules set for a specific genre is a bit desperate. I may as well say - Flying Lead would work a treat - the person will have to do so much work to make them feel right.

To make BOB into a set of samurai skirmish rules that feel like samurai skirmish would be a big job.

Not really a moan, good luck with the rules, more of an observation as every where I go you are putting them forward when people want a specific period feel.
