Abu's Ostfront (16 September 12 update)

First Waffen SS squad, with the option for the MG to be on the move or emplaced.

And the start of my Russian armor.

Loads more armor (both sides) on the painting table.

Looking great this. What scale and rules are you aiming for?

Gallows Falls - Western Village
Eisende - Mordheim costal village WIP

Thanks, I 'm thinking Company level and expect I'll be using KGN's successor, Battlegroup Kursk, once it's released.

Thanks, Helen. Yes, AB miniatures. They are such excellent models.

Got about to this stage with 15 or so more German pieces this weekend:

Really well done. Airbrushing ad libitum I presume?

Thanks Doc, and yes, liberal use of the airbrush was involved.

Here's a few more WIP shots--

Planning to stump on a bit of rust tonight. Weathering and basing next.  Anyone got any good references for making convincing foliage/camouflage?

Very good stuff! What are you basing your figures on? They look like washers? What size? About ready to start basing my figures...I have some 3/8 inch washers that work for most of them.

Thanks, guys. Hoping to get details and weathering done this weekend and get the next batch in the works.

styx- The individual figures are mounted on pennies, so base size is 3/4" or about 18mm. The MG team is on a 40mm fender washer. I'd have gone with fender washers for the singles too but I can't find any smaller than 1" where I live.

May I present this lot complete.

The Puma -

A StuH 42 -

A couple of the StuGs -

A couple of view of the Elefant (Or is it Ferdinand?).

Sturmtiger -

Bergetiger -

Lastly, a side by side of my first tank "Annelise" and the last Tiger II in the platoon -

Part way through the painting process I began to experiment with chipping, etc. after reading the braille scale pdf I found on the Guild page. Really liked the results, especially on the StuGs. I'll probably fiddle with these a bit more; have some weathering pigment coming in the mail soon and am contemplating adding some foliage camo.  A bit reluctant to cover up the painting tho! Gonna continue to go with the battle worn look for my next phases which will be to build out the rest of my Soviet armor and to add some Tigers, Panthers, and the soft skin vehicles to the Germans.
