Mutant Jons Dungeon bash project (now with Drow 20/7/12)
« on: 08 June 2012, 07:01:22 AM »
I decided to put together a Dungeon crawl project (most likely to be played Solo). For miniatures I had a look at the D&D pre-paints but some of the prices on ebay were a bit shocking. After reading Sundayheros Wrath of Ashardalon thread http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=41980.0  I decide to pick up the Legend of Drizzt game and have started painting the models.

I've also been playing a lot of Heroscape with my kids and picked up some Heroscape D&D boosters recently which turn out to be the same D&D miniatures with new,and very nasty, paint jobs. So I decided to re-paint the heroscape miniatures to.

During the long weekend here in UK and I managed to put brush to miniature for the first time in ages so here are a few pictures of various D&D plastic miniatures from the legend of Drizzt and Heroscape games that I managed to paint (re-paint in the case of the Heroscape miniatures). I've taken a leaf out of the D&D miniatures line and left all the bases plain black as these miniatures have to operate everywhere from dungeons, to forests and swamps etc themed scenic bases wouldn't fit to well.

Something you don't normally have to do with fantasy miniatures is research ...However in the case of the D&D miniatures I spent a happy couple of hours re-reading my old AD&D 2nd edition Monstrous Manual to make sure I got skin colours and such like right(ish). So here are pictures of my first monsters

Lovely painting, the style suits the miniatures perfectly and the wonderful bright colours, particularly the Frost giant, takes me back.

I may have to get me some of those Hunting Drakes.
(Sooner or later....)

My thoughts exactly.

Well done, Jon, you've made me see those figures as full of  potential, rather than just plain horrible!

The miniatures in the D&D games are really great. And your painting works very well on them. I'll be interested to see more. Have fun with your project.

I would agree with all the commentary that has gone before; i.e., the minis are WONDERFULLY colorful little creations that bring back other, &, perhaps, better times. INSPIRING STUFF & VERY WELL DONE!

Ever so slightly cartoonish (not derogatory) your style I think. Very nice!   :)

Thanks for the nice comments guys :)

A few more D&D miniatures, this time all Heroscape re-paints, at the top we have some bugbears and at the bottom some orcs. As per the previous miniatures I relied on the 2nd edition AD&D Monstrous Manual for my colours. Hence yellow skinned bugbears and green/grey orcs.

I also managed to get in a few games of the legend of Drizzt boardgame with my children yesterday which is a simple yet exciting and fun dungeon bash game. We played four games of the same scenario and all came out different and we've not even started on the advanced stuff included in the game.
