Combat Zone
« on: February 07, 2008, 08:14:33 AM »
Hi all...

I´ve been reading about Combat Zone for years, and some weeks ago I decided to buy their bundle of ruleset, dice and two painted gangs.

Reading the ruleset was very pleasant, as the system brought memories of the good old days: a detailed but not overcomplicated system where you can do whatever you like (no fixed, rigid lines for tournament playing as 40K is nowadays)

What do the experienced Lead Adventurers thinks about CZ. Anyone here plays it?

I've played it a couple of times, and I kinda like it for it's simplicity, ease of play and it's complete customisation.

The only thing in the rules that I never cared much for was two things:
The turning rules (spending 1 AP to turn a figure 180 degrees is just too much fuzz for me) and the Initiative rules just had too many dice involved.

Other than that, I really liked it; it's a great game for small one-off campaigns  and I've been contemplating playing it a lot more :)

Looks like it will be worth trying and at 25 GBP for 10 painted figures plus the rules etc, pretty good value  8)

I have played it quite a bit, you must have lots of cover as you can die very easily. I like the rules and if you read the Dead Walk again zombie rules there is quite a bit which is similar.

The online support for this is fantastic too

As Lowtardog alludes, the online support is great. Nary month goes by without us hearing about a installment of the Combat Zone Chronicles on TMP or elsewhere. I can think of no game with a more ardent group of fans/supporters.

It's good stuff!

That's why I finally decided to go into it (not the best miniatures in the world, but very decent and with a over-standard paintjob - if you compare them with Clix pre-painted horrors)

Well, the price, and things like this :D  :

The paintwork is at least as good as my efforts, so it'll do for me

You're right about the supporting matrial too - very good stuff and has really got me enthused about CZ  :D

CZ is a really nice little system, catering for a couple of squads and maybe a light apc, etc.

THe support for it is truly awesome, especially as the battle book is now free to download. The classifications for forces are generic, but can easily be used to almost anything in. It also boasts a large armoury, which has since been expanded further via the chronicles. I've used it to paly cyberpunk style games, ultra modern and even as far back as the colonial period. (Admittedly with a weapons tweaks to make it play better but they weren't really nessecary...)
