The Orc That Stumped The Frothers...
« on: July 29, 2012, 12:27:00 AM »
The gang over at FU:UK are usually very good when it comes to IDing figures, but no one there was able to identify this plastic Orc:

To the best of my knowledge, it is not from Heroquest, Advanced Heroquest, Battle Masters, Darkworld or Warhammer Quest- Can anyone provide a positive ID? (The figure has been removed from its integral plastic base).
2012 Lead Tally: Painted:0

Looks to me almost like a Neclos Fortress plastic game piece.
Neclos Fortress (possibly an Engrish misspelling of Necro's Fortress) was a sort of D&D style board game where you would travel up a randomly generated dungeon as character classes, collecting treasures, killing monsters, and fighting powerful random bosses like Cthulhu and the namesake, Neclos.
Never played it, love the card art and the little guys that come with it though.

No, due to the vagaries of Photobucket, the Orc image has replaced the Darkworld Ogre image in the old thread...

Looks like a mini from the german "DSA- Das Schwarze Auge" boardgame to me,
but not 100% sure.

Found to links with tiny pics which could be him

Thanks, Com' but to judge by the links, "Das Schwarze Auge" is the German version of the Darkworld game. Their Orcs look like this:

DSA Boardgames was what I thought of first as well. There two IIRC, one in a HQ-style dungeon and one in a village. The Orc, if it is one, doesn't look like those in the DSA universe though.

There was also Dragon Strike... And one game that had a electronic voice gimmick, can't remember the name.

Browsing BGG for all RPG-Lite-Style games would probably be the last resort ;)

Perhaps a Fantasy Flight game of some kind? They use red/magenta for "foe" figures in their Descent dungeon games.

I joined my gun with pirate swords, and sailed the seas of cyberspace.

I guess it where 3, the Castle, Village and one with a dragon, but am not completley sure about that.

Just had the Village and thought that the Orc could be from that line  :?

So, will keep my eyes open, maybe I'll find something out.

But the mini is hardplastic, right?
Not the soft one Fantasy Flight is using.

To be honest, the quality seems to be pretty bad, not something I would find in a FFG game ;)

It's strange how it has no integral base, and why is the plactic splintered at the toe... weird.

Hard plastic, not soft.

I think it's from the board game 'Tower of the Wizard King'.

Here's the best photo of it - orc is at the far right of the pic

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/417109/tower-of-the-wizard-king

I found the game in a thrift store a few months ago - kept the interesting doodads and figs (intending to make statues) and recycled the rest, but can't find them right now.

Basically the figures are hidden inside a plastic tower, on a carousel - they appear at random times and players have to adapt their play accordingly.  Looked like a poor man's Dark Tower ;)
