Neo-Soviet Power armor conversion
« on: 31 July 2012, 11:25:58 PM »
Way back when, I asked the estemed brains on this forum how to go about buying MAK-esque power armor for my Copplestone Neo-Soviets.  I mentioned that I might convert some out of Tau stealth armor and marine legs. http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=19437.0

Recently, I actually went out and built one of the darn things.

Used parts from seven different GW kits and some Aves putty, but it came out pretty much like what I wanted.

More pictures on my blog here:

Following my usual timeline, painting will happen sometime in 2015.  ;D

It looks great except for one detail - the gun. It should be more "soviet", not so curved (it's an eldar rifle barrel with bolter parts, right?). But great work  ;)

I like it, but agree with the gun suggestion. Current one is too elegant for Soviet State.

I agree with the previous comments about the gun. Something a bit more blocky and utilitarian would look more at home. Perhaps a nice big drum magazine on it as well.

Look forward to seeing it painted up either way though.

I disagree. Cold War era Soviet tanks weren't blocky. They were smooth, domed beasts; like little mobile Byzantine churches.

But we are talking about the machine gun, not the power armor itself. That looks great  :D

I do apologise, I misunderstood.  :)

I think something looking like a WWII anti-tank rifle would suit it.

That's a neat idea. Maybe something like this?

Or maybe the Boyes Anti-Tank Rifle? It looks sort of like an overgrown Bren Gun.

Thanks for all your comments!

In regards to the gun, I was trying to go for something of a heavy AK-47 look, as befits the Copplestone Neo-soviets, since they have a gun which is basically a short AK with a drum magazine.

I know the picture is not very clear (result of being too hasty with the photography), but the shurri catapult was actually cut down to more of a square profile... so maybe it is a bit more blocky.

I will try to get better pictures, and also to bash together some other guns.  The anti-tank rifle in particular, looks like it would be good for a section specialist to carry.

Anyway, thanks again for the input.

Love the model, but I have to agree with the gun again.  However, I used to play Eldar for about 10 years, so perhaps my eye just immediately catches on it too hard.  If you're looking for cheap Neo-Soviet stuff the new Dust Tactics and older AT-43 stuff is pretty slick.  I think the anti-tank rifle would look great converted.
