Ideas for dungeon creatures?
« on: August 12, 2012, 07:58:09 AM »
I've begun sculpting some small dungeon creatures to go along with the resin dungeon I've benn creating and managed to make to make a spider(it looks a bit like the war hammer quest ones) and a mutant rat. I want to see if I can make a small monster each day as these two took about 45 minutes each. Next up is going to be a coiled snake, then a bug of some sort, other than creating little beasties of my own imagination I'm lacking ideas for what else to do. So I'm asking for ideas please. The only restriction is that they need to be able to be sculpted lying flat on the floor as I'm going to make my own casts of them with resin and I'm not great at making double sided molds. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I'll post up pics of what I currently have soon.

Thanks
Beefy

Here are the pics of the first 2.

Yes those are toothpick ends.

Mounted on 25mm round bases I created as well.

They look good.

I admire people that can make things like this, especially as I can't even draw decent stick figures.

Agreed, very nice :). They look a little flat, but i'm presuming you've done that so as they can be easily cast up.

That's right. I made the mold about 15 minutes ago and have the first couple of minis curing right now. (not sure if curing is the right word) Should have the first couple in hand in about 5 minutes.
Thanks for the comments.

Haha they're cool, maybe a scorpion or something would be cool next?

Nice work!

Is that using greenstuff or Procreate?
Asking as I have some Procreate and have not tried it out yet.

Small imps sounds good. I'll have to make them crawling though but that's not a problem. CLimbing over each other etc.
Yes it's procreate. I find it really similar to Greenstuff but prefer it slightly. I don't know why, I just do.

Pendraken do some interesting monsters in the 10mm dungeon range, why not copy them / be inspired for your 28mm minis ;)

d&d jellies and puddings, beaten up zombies/corpses, sleeping cat (every evil wizard should have a few in front of their fire).

Now, this is just me and probably showing my age, but I would grab an old Monster Manual and start flipping pages...

No it's not age, I had the same idea.
Far less active than I used to...

Sounds like a very good idea the monster manual
Jellies are also a good idea. They should be pretty simple. A bit harder to make dynamic though.

Thanks for all the ideas. I'll start on my next one tonight (and hopefully finish it too)
