First French for my skirmish project (F & I War)
« on: August 14, 2012, 12:06:31 AM »
So, I finished off the flocking and dull coated my first batch of 28mm French. Most of the figs I've painted for this skirmish project have been native Americans (just about all are Conquest Miniatures). I did one batch of courier de bois and another of settlers, but these are the first line infantry.

If anyone can discern the manufacture, I'd be interested. I picked them up (untainted, of course) for $1 each at a flea market.

Anyway, without further ado, here they are:

You can see some of my native Americans on this old thread (or on my website below):

Hiya  :)

They're Foundry, a mix of Prussians and Russians from the Seven Years War range from when Mark Copplestone was sculpting them.

The officer with the pistol is/was? (don't know if he's still listed) a Prussian Freikorps officer (I have one I painted years ago, never finished the basing) in one of my cabinets.

You've made good use of them as Frenchmen, very nicely painted indeed  8)

Wot Lance said.

The officer firing his pistol is indeed from the old Foundry Prusssian Freikorps range, while the one waving and holding a musket is a Russian from the first SYW release (1998 or thereabouts). The other four are Foundry as well, but unlike the two officers, they're not Copplestone sculpts - you can tell they're bigger, a bit cruder and somewhat more cartoonish : I believe they were done by Rob Baker, who took over the SYW range from both Mark Copplestone and Nick Collier when they stopped working for Foundry.

I think you're right Arthur, that advancing figure I at first glance took to be one of the Copplestone sculpted advancing Freikorps soldiers from the original release, but it's certainly one of those later Russians.  ;)

Thanks, guys for the ID and kind words. Apparently, this flea market guy has loads more at home. So, now I can look through the range and inquire about specific figs/models. I didn't actually talk to him (just a friend of his), plus he didn't have labels on them. They seemed nicely separated, though. So, maybe I can acquire some more (isn't that what we do as miniature gamers?  lol

I always like to see older figures recycled and the F,I,Wars is one of my favorite periods.
