This episode of the 1957 Soviet movie "Tihii Don" (Quiet Flows the Don) is related to a Russian cavalry charge - executed by a regiment of Don Cossacks - against the Austro-Hungarians in late May of 1915 near Rava Russkaia (Rava Rus 'ka).

I got to see the whole film, with English subtitles. Very well done, though several examples of artistic licence throughout. Worth watching if you get the chance.

The Battalion is a 2015 Russian war film that relates the story of the First Battalion of Death, a women-only Russian combat unit that fought in the First World War, formed as part of an ill-conceived propaganda ploy by the Russian Provisional Government in late May of 1917.
