Hello folks,

I am new to this forum. I have come off of a recent 4th ed/essentials campaign that has left a bad taste in my mouth, and I am trying to ease my way back into the hobby. I have looked into Mord/Core/Heroheim, and am not sure if that is the way I would like to go. After a couple days of trolling, I have printed out CC rules, Bederken dungeon tiles (mounted to foam-core), and even scratch build a door with foam-core and greenstuff. I am wondering if you (FF) have updated your rules-set at all, and if so may I have a look? If anyone else has any suggestions I am all eyes. Thanks.

As I wrote in the PM a heavily revised version of CC should see the light-of-day in about a fortnight. This will be the 'official' finished edition which will then be properly released with artwork et cetera in the new year. I will post a link to the revised version here when it is ready. In the meantime I ask that everyone please keep the feedback coming: much of your comments and criticisms have been taken on-board and factored into the forthcoming edition. There will also be a supplement that allows you to fight campaigns using war-bands with the CC rules.

The draft version of the rules looks very good.  I am looking forward to the "'official' finished edition".

What is the plan? Will this be free PDF or a pay PDF or a real book?

The current revision that I am working on - which should more-or-less be the 'official finished edition', given that most of the kinks have been ironed out now - will be available freely when I'm finished with it (my previous assertions that it would be done in a fortnight were somewhat optimistic, but it'll definitely be done by the end of this month). A further version replete with artwork and perhaps some further revisions will then be available sometime in the New Year. I will probably charge for this, but not very much! Thanks for the interest!

Several crawlers suggested that a pre-Christmas release of Cavern Crawl 2.0 would be advantageous as it appears that some lucky beggars actually get some time off over the festive period during which they might idle away the hours by gaming! With this in mind I set this very day as a deadline and have worked like a trojan to get the thing finished in time. Illness, work and a dodgy PC all conspired to stop me from realising this goal, but realised it I finally have! So here I present you with Cavern Crawl 2.0:

Cavern Crawl 2.0

(If you have any difficulty accessing this file then please PM me your email and I will mail the pdf to you directly.)

To those au fait with the previous edition I am confident when I write that 2.0 witnesses a dramatic improvement on all fronts. From the of formalising of terminology to the streamlining of the rules themselves (largely based on your feedback, for which I am indebted) to the layout this latest version represents a much more 'complete' set of rules that are easier to comprehend and use.

Having written that, this still remains a 'rough' edition prior to the release of a final edition in early Spring which will be refined even further. This 'final' version will feature a logo, artwork and a reworking of the explanatory photographs, adventure profile sheets and 'The Orc's Lair' dungeon map contained in 2.0. I am also displeased with the way some tables in 2.0 carry over pages and will look to rectify this in the forthcoming set.
As I write I'm close to finishing an add-on that will allow gamers to use CC for campaign-driven skirmish games above-ground as well. Anyway, enough prattling from me on the subject and I leave interested parties to download 2.0, peruse and play it; if you're impressed (or even unimpressed!) please let me know what you think.

As usual, more nonsense and hyperbole on das blog.

Well done, Gareth, looks good. I've just downloaded it for perusal next week.  :D

(Finalising rules/layout/wording is tedious, isn't it? It's taking me weeks to sort mine out to the point where they are fit for someone else to play without me there  :?)

Rab: Cheers! Hope you enjoy it and I look forward to having a crack at your set in the near future.

Writing rules in a coherent manner is very difficult indeed, which is why feedback is so important (I've already spotted a few typos since I put 2.0 out this morning...)! The most vital thing I learnt from the earlier edition of CC is that you can't take it for granted that people will automatically know what you're on about: clarification is needed throughout.

Let me know what you think, anyway!

Blue: I think you'll find this set much smoother than the previous. I hope you enjoy it and please let me know how you get on!
