 JimBibbly came up with a recipe for pearlescent armour which is what we wanted for the Martians, I am glad it has worked. He is a genius but don't tell him I said that, or it will go to his head.
I am sure he will share the recipe when he sees this.

Since you are being a smartarse then no 

Oh go on then...

White base coat and then a mix of silver, gloss varnish and a little bit of teal, watered down a bit and given two coats. The teal could be swapped out for something else to change the hue/colour/tone etc.

Very ingenious, I just thougt you had used the pearlescents available from W&N etc.  They do a colourless one too which can be added to the paint of your choice.
