Soliciting thoughts on Sci Fi trooper
« on: 25 August 2012, 12:49:08 PM »
Hi guys! My name is John and im with a small group over at Trench2114.com. We have started a small line of 15mm weird wars type miniatures and now are thinking of having some miniatures made for a more sci fi looking trooper. The current artwork we have for it is at the top of our gallery section, in color. I would love you guys opinions on best scale (6mm,15mm,28mm so on) and overall thoughts on the concept. Thanks guys!

Thanks for throwing the pic up. I still havent mastered that here, yeah he's got a bit of a 1950's vibe to him was my thought when I first got the artwork back.

Looks quite pulpy, which does almost nothing for me.  I'd say a lot of guys use 28mm for a variety of gaming.  It's always a pretty safe bet for Sci-fi gaming.  Even guys who don't play your game, may invest in miniatures.  I know I've picked up dozens of companies miniatures without ever playing their games.

Yup too pulp-flash gordon for my tastes. Also massive legs, small shoulders/arms intentional or just concept art?

Actually, the SF-pulp look is what I like about it! Perhaps a commander/hero without helmet?

Yeah i dont think there was supposed to be that big of a difference with leg size but the boots represent heavy gravity boots to keep him on the ground in low gravity enviroments. The original idea was a trooper for a deep inside a moon mining corporation, security against rivals if you will, or the occassional monster in the depths  :)

Not my cuppa T, I'm afraid. But in case you make more of the more scifi minis at some point and on an off chance they might be more interesting aesthetically, I'll vote for 28mm.

The figure looks like he's toting a tool, not a gun - the underslung design just looks awkward for a weapon.

RE: proportions, he actually looks better than many figures offered for sale - immense, ridonkulous shoulders are sort of a hallmark of lazy design, in my eyes.

To encase a normal-sized skull, wouldn't the helmet be slightly larger?
from Mr.Vampire: "It's the paintjob that makes the miniature fight harder not the size."
