They saw widespread but limited use. For obvious reasons, the Western Front didn't provide optimal conditions for the use of motorcycles, save for behind the lines use by despatch riders. There was some use of the MG armed versions by the Motor Machine Gun Corps but usually in a dismounted role. The best reference I can think of is David Fletcher's
War Cars which has a chapter devoted to motorcycles and some good photographs.
