Help with creating fire.
« on: September 03, 2012, 10:28:39 PM »
Hey guys,

I am in the process of creating a campfire terrain peice for my Goal System Delves game and was wondering if anyone has any ideas how to create the fire effect? I can try to green stuff it but my sculpting skills are rather green (pun intended lol) If anyone has any pointers that would be awesome!

Cotton sprayed black, then the lower parts get sprayed yellow and red.

Broken round toothpicks painted black at one end and bright yellow darkening to red in the other.
Glue them to a base, either lying in a circle or leaning against on another.
Stick a piece of not really straight wire in the middle and glue a grey cotton tendril to it.
Make a circle of small stones around it.

If you want to make it fancy you can buy the burning and smoking wool Battlefront sells for FoW. There you have orange, red and grey 'wool'.
Or you can look for similar stuff in craft shops.

Pretty much what all those cool chaps already told you. The secret is in the paint red>orange>yellow on cotton wool, fiber wool or anywool.

I saw a nice one made from GW plastic horse tails in the General's Compendium.

That was some nice fire from Elladen.

For a campfire I'd use much less smoke.

I had forgotten the horse tail fire, that's an easy and good one. Some of the WotR horses came with a small plastic grass tuft (to fill in empty holes in the base) that were perfect as small flames.

Take on of those, put a thin wire through it, twist it a little, and twirl some grey cotton/wool around it.
That's probably what I'll do next time I need a campfire.
