Got my copy today, very suitably impressed.

Hey I got my copy in from Brigade Games today and have had some time to glance through various sections.  I have to say that so far T&T meets or exceeds my best expectations.  It seems very much like one of those rulesets that will just click for players after a few turns.  I appreciate how straight forward the rules and the writing are.  Now I can't wait to try them out.

I haven't had a chance to play yet, but am actively building forces for my first game.  I plan on doing a Darkest Africa type game with natives and gun runners (deserters, smugglers etc.) versus a European expedition.  The exploration of the Europeons is threatening to disrupt the illeagal arms shipments of the gun runners, thus they plan an encounter to act as a deterrant to further exploration.

Here's what my thoughts are so far, any input would be welcome.  Note that the size of the units is somewhat limited by my limited collection.

Gunrunners side:
1 unit of 10 raw natives with hand weapons
1 unit of 10 trained natives with muskets (trained will reflect their fanatisism not military experience)
1 unit of 8 trained gun runners armed with rifles/pistols (these are Europeon former soldiers/derserters etc thus the trained level)
1 Dashing anti-hero hero

Europeon Expedition:
1 unit of 8 raw Explorers armed with various firearms
1 unit of 5 veterain Naval landing party
1 unit of 5 veterain colonial troops
1 Sergent Major hero.
A smattering of unarmed civilain bystanders.

Hi,

I think thats a good start and I like your story idea !

I have a native musket unit in my force as well. The foundry stuff is so darn tempting. I guess yours are from Foundry too.

Mine is usually Raw. My other native units are all trained.

When I play a tribe, one unit is always veteran to represent the tribe finest warriors.

Cheers
Björn

Thanks.  Maybe I'll switch around and make the native muskets raw and the natives with hand weapons veterain.  I'm kind of low on natives, that's what gave me the gun runners idea.  My native muskets are actally foundry Natal figs and the others are some Zulus that I just bought on ebay.

I play mostly skirmsih games, so I don't really have many figs from any one era/genre.  When I first saw the rules I thought to do some Boxer Rebellion stuff in 15mm because I could buy sizable forces fairly inexpensively.  I decided, however, to try to see what I could develop with what I have.  Some of my future battles might see some strange mix of forces as I will probably use my Colonial miniatures mixed in with my England Invaded alternate WWI stuff and my Space 1889 Martians for kind of VSF/Weird War I games.

Anyway, I'll post the results after I finally get to play.

Hi,

you dont need many figures for T+T. If you like and have the chance increase your natives with close combat weapons  to 16 figures.

You will have a larger force that can stand a punch or you can devide it into two units of 8 men. I do the same. I have only 16 painted native spearmen  :)

I also have a small unit of 8 bowmen. I use them for ambushes.

Right now I have 8 more spearmen on my desk and 4 Askaris.

Darkest Africa is such a great period to wargame. You dont need much figures and can play exciting games with a story.

Cheers
Björn
