Project is really coming together...like a lot of people I have something like this on the back burner (Russian city states and northern crusaders primarily) so it's inspiring to see your stuff.

Some Skirmishers fresh from the conveyor belt.

Some more pictures of these Baltic Crusaders at my blog.

The minis are from the left: Artizan, Crusader, Crusader and Gripping Beast. As I got some questions about the minis I will clarify, still from the left:

  • Artizan viking bowmen, I just added a GB plastic viking sword in the belt and a medieval heater shield on the back.
  • Crusader crossbow man from the Later Crsader range, he to got a GB plastic Viking Sword as well as a Saex from the same kit and a GB metal kite shield on the back.
  • Crusader crossbow man from the Later Crsader range, he got a new head from West Wind Saxon range, a purse and saex from the GB plastic viking set and a medieval heater shield on the back. The sword he have stuck in he´s belt under the shield are from Curteys medieval range.
  • GB Plastic Saxon with a head from a Crusade mini (from the one in the green cap) and with bow arms and arrows from a Perry WOTR box and a GB metal kite shield on the back.

I hope that cleare everything out;)

Best regards Michael

Very interesting project, will surely follow this.

Easiest way to make skis would be just use plasticard as you can easily warm one end and make the slight curve. Just make the skis wider than they are nowadays (almost twice should be sufficient) and the other ski is just half as long as the anothers (the shorter one was used to kick speed). Also there used to be only one skipole, that quite normally had spear point in another end.

I love the snow covered bases. An excellent collection you are building ;D

Thanks mates !

I´ll go for the plastic card when trying out the skis, I suppouse the right fot ski probably was the shorter one.

That depends on a skier and skier's prefenreces or rather his/her strong side, so to speak. If you follow modern day skiers doing the traditional style, all of them are not always dominantly just "kicking" speed with right leg.

Medieval skiers might have used a Sami typed boots btw, with a "hooked" nose piece so the ski would not get loose that easily.

Great to see what kind of skiers you will present us with. Keep up the good work.

Very nice project love the mix of old and new equpiment. I'm trying to start a project building up some forces for the Scottish isles circa mid 1100s (Somerled, Wimund of Man) and am trying to mix Conquest plastic Normans with Plastic vikings to get a similair (though 100 years earlier) feel for my Mann Norse.
