*smart-arse on* Actually, it's a German/Bavarian regiment in Swedish service. ;)
For our foreign-language friends it reads "God with us" and "If God wills it who's to change it?". The latter is a nice twist on the crusaders' phrase, might steal that. Well done and thank you, nevermore, for bringing these up. :)

I suspected something like that but my actual knowledge of that period is zero. Thanks for the lesson!
