Mr Brown goes off to Town on the 8:21
« Reply #15 on: 25 March 2008, 06:39:32 AM »
Things have been going slowly but I have done a few things which I will be able to upload photos of soon . I have bought the Osprey book on British Home Defences 1940 - 45 which was a very interesting read.

This is my Armed Fishing Boat and want to ask for opinions on how to
paint it . I'm thinking of doing the hull red , black band and then a light grey upper decks with wood paneling . Or maybe black hull with red band and light grey upper hull.
I want to use it for Pulp games and will be able to remove the gun deck and weapons so I dont want it to look too Military.

(sorry about my earlier brainfart , I've been on other forums too much lately  )

try this

http://www.dadsarmy.co.uk/map.html

might help with your layout.

Did you know that the Home Guard training was devised by a Spanish Civil War veteran. Tom Winteringham fought in Spain, and helped to put together a training manual, he was thrown out because the Government feared he was putting together a Left Wing militia to try and grab power!!!

Hi Durutti thanks for the Map I will have to study it for some details.

The Osprey book mentions Tom Winteringham . Seemed a shabby way to treat a Veteran but they lived in strange times I suppose.

My trawler crew who I am in the process of rebasing as they were painted for Pulp games as my Walker Crew but never used.

This is a house I built some time ago which I am using as a template for other houses and shops as I think it looks British enough . I may change the yellow to a softer shade .

I am just about finished basing my 2nd HG section and have started assembling the support weapons.

I'm not sure I can offer any suggestions about colours, though the latter option might be more suitable as it will be a bit more subdued.

Regardless, thats a cracking model

Thanks Overlord , the Trawler has nearly taken over my whole Project as I just did'nt know when to stop adding details , but I had to in the end as I wanted to keep it as a wargaming model.

The Hull was made out of blue Foam wrapped in two layers of card to make it strong . The LMG was an MG 42 filed down to look like a 34 and mounted on some bits . The gun was scratch built from a Minitank gun with an Airfix 88 gun sheild mounted upside down and bits from the bits box. I'm thinking of putting a seated gunner on it but not sure how historical it would be.

I agree with Overlord, a superb boat, excellent level of detail :)

Darned tramp steamers - nothing but a load of pirates, taking over every project they get involved in!

Great looking model, Dan.

I painted a drop cloth for the beach and sea , I'm pleased with the sea but the beach needs more work.

The yellow does not show through as much in real life as I was using a spotlight which changes it a bit.

Speaking of spotlights I found these in my local shop . The are real working lights and are about 35mm high .

Squad 2 is finished , not sure what I will do with Mr Brown (BAM Partizan) he could be a sniper or just another member of the LDV as I painted an armband on his right arm.
