Objective & Hull Point Counters (40k 6th Edition)
« on: October 07, 2012, 09:27:51 PM »
Hi all,

We were recently sent some wargaming counters, and after trying them out in our 40k games, they have now become essential equipment! Its not always easy to remember how many hull points each vehicle has, or to find a good way to mark our the hidden values of objectives during 'The Scouring' mission, but these counters solved those problems for us. You can see our full review below:

Fingers crossed they'll bring out other counters in future that we can use to keep track of mysterious objectives and things like that. Has anyone else tried these out yet? what do you think?

So... They are essentially plastic wound/numbered markers... Like every other laser-cut acrylic wound/numbered marker ever made before in fact. Not really sure what the point of a "review" is?  ???

Major_Gilbear, the point is the exposure it gets. People search for things like this on Blogs, Youtube and stuff. I do a lot of reviews on Youtube and they work out pretty well for the people.

Admittedly, not my bag, I'm happy with my official GW objective, vehicle damage marker dice, but to each their own!  :)

Well, if that's the case (and if it were my product being reviewed), I'd be pretty pissed off that no mention of who makes it is made anywhere in the OP!  :P

I'm with Major - and no offense to Graven Games, but their posts mainly seem to be "look, this exists!"...and that's it.  We have sites dedicated to that exact thing - Table Top Gaming News, and Beasts of War etc.

I also agree that laser etched tokens don't exactly need to be announced.  A 2-second blurt on google will give you about 90 different results.  Just rather lacking posts from the GG folks here.

No worries guys, it was a bit of a 'look, this exists!' ...but I also explained in the review how these overcome a couple of problems that other generic counters do not. These have the correct numerical values to be able to cope with every objective vaule in 40k games, plus they can be used for the one mission which requires you do not know the value and the mission where you must capture and control a relic. The structural integrity markers were used to keep track of hull points in my 40k games, where each vehicle (there are often loads!) can have up to 4 hull points and gradually lose them as they get hit.

I didnt put the manufacturers name in the opening post, but if the review was read you would find not only direct links to the site, but info on pricing (including conversions from $ to £) and and how we have personally used each counter set. I've also taken my own larger pictures of each counter so that people can make clear decision as to what there are buying (or not). I also provided links to other products from the same manufacturer that I have reviewed in the past, so you might discover something that interests you that way.

I honestly find the counters useful, and my aim is just to build a resource that is useful to wargamers like me. I realise there are other sites out there like beast of war & TGN ...but is there not room for more? ...we all have to start somewhere.

Thanks

Actually, the hull point markers seem pretty useful to me. I'd like to keep my objectives modeled, with a limited narrative to them, instead of using cold and clinical counters however.

Still; using counters instead of dice, which always seem to get scooped up or swept aside when throwing dice for results, looks like a nice and clear way of keeping track of hit/hull points.

But as it is, there are quite some other ranges out there, so for me, it'd be a matter of picking the ones I like the most. These are nice though...
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...
