Fantastic work going on here  :-* :-*

I recognise the great spined dragons head but as to the other parts I'm at a loss unless the body is a GW chaos dwarf mount of some sort  ???

cheers

Very cool. What was the original miniature of that bull/ox thing? It looks really awesome.

The original barbarian range was sculpted by Mark Copplestone when he was working for Grenadier UK many years ago. The range was part of the "Fantasy Warriors" line and is still available today in it's intirety by Mirliton, an italian company:

http://www.mirliton.it/index.php?cName=fantasy-2528mm-barbarians

Some more informations about UK availability can also be found here: http://fantasywarriors.frothersunite.com/

The "Not Thrudd" miniature is one of the five incarnations Citadel miniatures released 1984-1987 as limited editions.

More info about that on the Wikipedia "Thrud the Barbarian" site.

You can of course hunt them down on Ebay ...  ::)

Thanks a lot, pff, need more money  :D

Very cool. What was the original miniature of that bull/ox thing? It looks really awesome.

It's a 15mm miniature from the Demonworld range, now distributed by Ral Partha Europe (4516 Gar’ydwedd with Archer crew). It was sculpted by Werner Klocke, and he did a masterly job with the beast's body. But the head, I don't know why, came out like a caricature from the Muppet show and you can see it here in all it's ugliness:

I choose to replace it with an ace monster head sculpt by Nick Bibby, the Great Spined Dragon (as the well-informed jimbibbly already recognized!), and used only one of the four horns from the Demonworld kit. I like the outcome very much. And no, I didn't sacrifice a Great Spined Dragon, I built a mould many years ago from my original casting and casted a couple for forthcoming conversions.

Btw, I have a spare blister of that Gar’ydwedd-bull beast which I don't need, so if someone would be interested in a bargain, just drop me a pm.

That is a wonderful conversion, and I agree that the original head is not as great as the rest.

Tempted with the beastie, but I know it would just sit there for ages.... :(

Better to go to someone who will use it AND post a pic of the thing finished!
 :D

Another two for the weekend ... Axe-wielding maniacs

No great changes on these, just replaced one axe with a more realistic looking one from the spares.

That's it for the first warband. They will all go to one magnetized skirmish-tray. I stole the idea shamelessly from the Captain and added the magnetic factor ...  :D

This is the construction before landscaping:

Bottom level is 1mm plasticard, second level self-adhesive 1,5mm magnetic sheet, third level 1mm plasticard again with all the cutouts for the miniature bases. This last one was glued on with contact adhesive. Each sheet was slightly smaller than the one underneath to get a nice graduation. After filling the base with spackle compound this treatment will let the base look thinner than it is.  8)

A group shot must wait a little as I plan to show this gang in a small competition ...

Only just cottoned on to this thread and would like to add my voice to the chorus of praise received from all quarters. A superb concept, selection of minis and execution. I salute you!

The BEST OF LUCK in the competition...although you should do well on sheer talent. WONDERFUL WORK!

@Mason: the handsome chap with the Big Axe & impressive mane of hair is an old Grenadier...God but I miss that Mini Maker.
