2nd WW1 French Halfling Test Sculpt

Different style of sculpt this time - chunkier and more comedic style halfling than the previous slimmer looking one.

I think I prefer this style for the range.

I like this style as well!

I also think, give him some boots and a beard and he'd make a good Gnome! 

The last one was very small, smaller, in fact, than the Hasslefree Halflings.

Lovely sculpting, the hands are a little lazy, but everything else is fantastic. The face has a lot of character.

I must be honest and admit I haven't got money at the moment to spend on this, that is why I haven't commented on your previous attempt!

the ww1 goblins you have acquired are completely ace

and this new chap looks gorgeous! it is still a hobbit but with different traits than the ones by hasslefree

the addition of the mustache is brilliant, if you intend to follow this route I can only agree and try to find some money to buy them

as a sugestion: please try to add some kind of trench mortar to the group (the odder the better) and bits of food or pots to the backpacks!

Not really screaming 'halfling' at me. The first sculpt was good but admittedly perhaps a little too similar to the Hasslefree stuff. This version though doesn't quite work for me. Sculpt quality is fine though.

As said elsewhere, I like it as a standalone, but the size and proportions don't fit well with the goblins. Unlike the first sculpt, this one doesn't appear to be part of the same range.

Also, a certain likeness to the Kindred is not so bad, as compatibility with other ranges is for me usually an incentive to buy into a new project.

I agree with this, but I love the style of this miniature on it's own.

I also agree with this, frying pans, strings of sausages, the odd baguette never hurt either!

I think it's okay they don't match the Hasslefree Kindred. The Kindred are lovely sculpts, but they don't scream 'halfling' to me where this does. I'd almost be tempted to use the Hasslefree ones as Brownies or Pixies, keeping in tone with the traditional British Folklore... I don't know!

Any chance you could make some 'unit packs'. I understand if this is difficult because of the ways the molds are made up though.

I would love to see some French Halfling Cavalry! Snail Riders, I hear they are very good in the trenches, they do well in a wet environment and they are all terrain animals...

We will be adding unit packs as soon as I can sort it out.

I am planning on running small Kickstarter campaign to get the range up and running which will mean you can help them happen and also buy them cheaper than eventual retail.

All the money raised will go back into expanding the range faster so that people can field complete armies...

That is good news… well, maybe…

I’m not sure I would back a KS campaign with this 2nd figure… on the other hand, if they where to be in the same style as the first figure I surely will. The first figure work very well for an Officer. I think that "rank and file" troops should have beard and moustache… they would look like Poilu then. Figures with haversack with foods and cooking pots would be a nice touch indeed.

I've read somewhere that "moustache du style mousquetaire" was very en vogue then

…and of course if I’m to back a KS campaign for the Halflings French, I will have to bought some Goblin opposition too

1)  Liked the first figure but like this one (maybe not as a JRRT halfling) better.  Not sure that not looking like the Goblin (which is meh) stylistically is such a bad idea. 

2)  Ogres?  You mean Bio-Tanks?  With armored Vests and large rifles/small cannons? That would be cool.

If Goblins are Prussian/German, halflings French (and/or English,) would gnomes be Belgian?  What smallish race would be Americans?  Austrians?  Italians?  Russians?

You could have Austro-Hungarian Orcs, Undead Turks...

I think Americans would have to be Treemen, it took them a long time to get involved in the fighting because they had to arrange an Entmoot and we all know how long they take!!! I dunno, just a bit of fun. Perhaps Wood Elves?

As for Ogres as Bio-Tanks, that could work actually... Perhaps carrying HMG's as if they are rifles. There would only need to be one or two.

Hasslefree are releasing some Russian Dwarves, along with a tank and a Treeman, so they have some heavy support!!!
