Found an inexpensive AA gun / artillery piece.
« on: November 11, 2012, 01:20:56 PM »
I know I've seen this model before in a Future Wars thread -- as a gun mounted on the back of a Ramshackle Gnu, I think? It would also be good for VSF. Anyway, I was in a Cancer Research UK charity shop in Cambridge yesterday, and they had a big pile of these AA-gun pencil sharpeners. I bought two to serve as air defenses for my spaceport project. They were £1 each, which is not bad.

They had quite a lot of them, which makes me wonder if this is one of those things that you see in a whole chain of charity shops, like dollhouse furniture in Sue Ryder Care.

Anyway, here is the gun itself:

And here it is with an em-4 scavenger and a Mantic Ork for scale:

I am half tempted to go back and get a couple more.

If you did (and you know you want to...  ;) ), would you be inclined to pick up a couple more and send them on their way to the Netherlands? Full compensation of course...

Those look great and will have a ton of uses in anything from steampunk to pulp to scifi and more. Great find at any rate!
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

lol Well; looks like I won't have to emotionally blackmail poor mr. Holloway into buying a few and sending them across the North Sea after all...

Cheers for that Geudens; very helpful indeed.  :)

btw: I love what you've done with it; a good example of what can be achieved!  8)

It was Geudens's original post that made me want to buy the things in the first place!

These have been posted up a few times now. They are scaled down action force z force guns, with the originals being plastic, having a seat behind the controls and scaled for 3
1/2 " posable figures.

I used the base sections to create these:

LAAG guns from Halo

Very useful all round. Will use the guns as 15mm defense grid styled weapons.

Dozing Dragon -
Is that a wine press?

Do we have any scale pics with figures?

Are these all available from Cancer Research?

I saw only the gun -- and I'm not sure it's anywhere outside Cambridge; it's just a hunch. But it's possible someone just gave them a case of the things.

These are available in the US as well.  eBay search for "gun pencil sharpener."

Got it off the original link and spent half an hour looking around  :D;

Wine press is very expensive but may be a good starting point for making one from scratch?

So much stuff on that site. No idea of scales....I would guess most are not usable but I'm hoping to go to the charity shop tomorrow....possibly only a limited inventory????
