I'm in the market for Star Wars miniatures in 28mm.  Man, they seem to be more expensive than GW!

Does anyone have suggestions of where to get some inexpensive ones that are decent?  I'm in the US.
I'm fine with not Star Wars minis as well.

One option can be Star Wars - Imperial Assault boardgame. The base game has 34 minis, the mini packs have 1-3, the boxed expansions have 10-15. They are very good quality.

For "not" Star Wars minis other sci-fi dungeon crawlers can be options (Star Saga, Zombicide: Invader, etc.)

Stargrave plastic miniatures may also work for you. Good variety and you can mix and match builds.

You can check out 3d prints off etsy. I have picked up some random squads of ten non-denominational sci fy models for 12-15 pounds.  Wargames Atlantic also have some that may or may not fit the bill for you but you will end up with some extra models due to the number that you get in a pack.  Stargrave models are also a good shout out as there are a few different sets of infantry and they usually come with at least one "alien" head on the sprue.

It depends on how not Star Wars you want to go.

Anvil Industries Gothic Void infantry.
There are some familiar bounty hunter/baby sitter figures as well.

And Hasslefree have some in metal.

Stargrave/Frostgrave/Ghost Archipelago offer plenty of civilian/rebel options including some familiar faces.

The Big Mr Tong STLs are printed by a number of folks, including my friend John of JS Wargamer Printing here in the States. Here's his "Galaxy Far Away" page from his site:
https://wargamerprinting.com/product-category/uncategorized/miniatures/sci-fi/galaxy-far-away/
VERY reasonably priced, as you can see.

yup second the 3d printing route.  Dark fire designs have some free stls you can download.  That's pretty cheap :)  But support the artist and pay for a download too.

I'd look for details on line too. But unfortunately I agree picking up SW minis is getting expensive outside of 3d printing.

Good luck and please share how you get on

You can find the old Wizards of the Coast Star Wars miniatures game figures on eBay. The basic characters are fairly inexpensive (Rebels, Stormtroopers, Clone Troopers, Droids etc). You will pay more for the main characters, but the cost is worth it if you compare it to the cost of current figures out there, and you will not need to paint them.  :D

I'm in pretty much the same boat, looking for 28mm star wars figures - I'm using the Imperial Assault starter set minis (the supplements/add on packs all jump up about 3-4mm) which just about fit in well size-wise with Stargrave minis. I've also started removing the heads from some leftover WOTC 32mm Star Wars Miniatures figures (the classic alien ones) and gluing them onto Stargrave miniature bodies as a fairly basic conversion - they look ok as the WOTC heads were mostly on the smallish side. Still looking for some good prints available in 28mm on the UK side of the pond - I think the US has a definite advantage there. Good luck with your hunt and I'll post some pics when I think I have something to show!  lol

Absolutely correct, except they are bigger than 28mm (32mm I think), extremely bendy in some cases and there is a certain lack of consistency amongst the ranges. Having said that, it's a great source for astromech droids, and heads for conversion work (see my above post).

I have used and can recommend 3dargent https://3dargent.co.uk/ & Phalanx Printing https://phalanxprints.co.uk/ for 3d Star Wars printing. Although both advertise Legion scale figures (from a variety of sources) they've both happily printed at 28mm scale for me.

On Etsy, I've used TwistedPinnacle3D https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/TwistedPinnacle3D?ref=shop-header-name&listing_id=1743456407&from_page=listing & MiniaturesBeGone https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/MiniaturesBeGone?ref=shop-header-name&listing_id=1269826002&from_page=listing for printing BigMrTong STLs.

Diehard Miniatures have lots of figures that are 'inspired' by Star Wars https://diehardminiatures.com/product-category/scifi-miniatures/.

CP Models have a wide range of figures that wouldn't look out of place in Star Wars as well https://www.checkpointminiatures.co.uk/product-category/28mm-ranges/28mm-sci-fi/.

Brilliant stuff, Nozza - the stand-out one for me is 'MiniaturesBeGone' - I picked up some of their 'Space Orcs' a while ago on ebay but didn't look for them on Etsy. Pages now bookmarked, thanks.
And, having just rushed off to check, they are the exact same 28mm size as the Stargrave conversions and Imperial Assault Starter set mini's.

And there's more  lol

For generic Sci-fi figures, I can recommend the following.
Starlettminiatures https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/Starlettminiatures
OttsWorkshop https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/OttsWorkshop
Stonebeards Forge https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/StonebeardsForge
Micks Bits https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/MicksBits
PeakModels https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/PeakModels
HeadBunnyGames https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/HeadBunnyGames Uses an FDM printer, so figures can be a bit ropey (but cheap) and the terrain is good.

All UK based.

I've already used OttsWorkshop for Burrows and Badgers figures, some very nice mini's.
