Pretty darn good, whats the difference between DV and the regular game?
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

DV is just a basic set with two starter armies, a WH40K v6 - A5-  rulebook for a decent price. I had no Chaos nor Dark Angels Armies so I was tempted.

Well, I bought a box of five of those cultists for $10 and that convinced me to get two Dark Vengeance cultist sprues from Hoard O' Bits which was about $68 shipped for 40 cultists including two machine guns and two flame throwers. (I also got a box of 18 Hobbit goblins that will make good primitive mutants.) So that's my $100 for the month. I guess I will use the chaos cultists as wasteland raiders.

That kind of hurts my ability to work on my death-cyborg warband idea or my D&D red box adventurer set idea in the short term. Such is the price of impulsiveness.

Now I want to get some Pig Iron 'ferals' and 'rebels' to make another "ugly" raider/scavenger band. But that will have to happen after my wallet regenerates.  That might be $150 or more to get a 40+ strong force. Yipes.

I might spend another $30 on a couple of boxes of Wargames factory orcs though. They look really nice for being so cheap.

I never did buy those Great Coat shock troopers they make either.

Or the defiance UAMC marines.

So much cheap plastic and so little money and time!

Pretty darn good, whats the difference between DV and the regular game?

I popped into GW on Friday while Christmas shopping just for old time's sake, and one of those nice GW Stepford Wives types gave me the hard sell and cracked open a box for me to have a look at the bits. The Dark Vengeance thing gets you a shedload of plastic figures (as artfully demonstrated by this thread), dice, templates, scenario book and a cut-down version of the 40K rulebook. You get all the rules, but not all the fluff and snazzy artwork that is in the hardcover edition.

I was pretty tempted, and he was a good salesman. Well, good enough that I walked out with a six quid box of those chaos cultists. They are such cute little fellas. :)

It's looking good, Sgt. Perry.

I really like these!

Actually, it also makes me wish that the two forces in DV were a little more balanced - losing 5 cultists to gain 5 of these would certainly have done that!

Still, I (finally) got my copy of DV and I think the models are superb. Zero interest in the game, but the models are amazing - in fact I think that DV and the WHFB starter (Island of Blood) are probably my two favourite GW products of recent times, and I wish all their plastics were that good quality, simple to assemble and dynamically-posed.

Anyway, good job with these, and thank you for sharing. ;)

Looking good, for starter set sculpts the cultists are amazing. Must of painted around 50 of them by now though, but what annoys me is the 5 Cultists box for £6 as its a odd mix of weapon options (2 with ccw and 3 with autos) but i see you converted a few to get around that :)

Absolutely, in order to have more variety, the best solution is to find some Dark Vengeance sprues. The 5 Cultists box offers very limited options.
