Pirate scale
« on: March 22, 2008, 09:01:49 AM »
Inspired by the Prof's recent Black Flag report, I finally gave in and bought Gloire and Black Flag, so will begin my Pirate collection in earnest. I've nothing at the moment so can start from scratch.

But what to buy? Currently considering both Black Scorpion's range (32mm) and Crusader (28mm), but how do they compare against with other manufacturers? Do BS look really out of place against other ranges?

Tracked down some comparison pictures on Frothers, but they don't include Black Scorpion? Can anyone advise?

Cheers

Karl

(First of all, thanks Karl! I hope you'll enjoy the game.)

To answer the scale question, yes, Black Scorpion's figures are noticably larger, but they're also slightly more slender than Crusader. Now this doesn't bother me, and since there are some lovely sculpts in there, I think it would be fine to use them as your more heroic captain types. Once the figures are on the table and in use, I think stylistic differences become much less noticable.

Black Cat Bases' pirates are about the same size as Black Scorpions. There are some fun figures in that line, if you want to check them out.

Cheers Pete - really looking forward to a game.

Thanks for the tips on Black Cat - a nice range there too. Are they Bob Olley scuplts BTW?

Martin Baker sculpts. Black Cat are all good people, too.
