Laserburn/RT Fishmen

I quickly painted up a couple of these guys over the weekend.  With the benefit of hindsight I would have done things slightly differently (the green and brown guy is a bit too drab) but overall I am pleased enough with them.

As might be expected with miniature designs that that are about thirty years old, they are a bit retro, but they were fun to paint.  The gaping maws in particular.

Can you still get them and is there more in the range apart from those 2? I have a bit of a fishman bee in my bonnet at the moment and I wants these.

These figures have been cast up again as part of a promotion for a big game of Rogue Trader planned to take place in Wargames Foundry in Nottingham this Saturday.  It is being run by the "Tales from the Maelstrom" guys.

I dont know if/when the fishmen will be on general release, but the details on the figures are HERE on the Foundry News page (scroll down a bit).  I suggest that you email Foundry to check.

One trick I use with fishy things is to mix a tiny bit of silver in with the paint and do a very light drybrush right at the end. It gives them a very slight sheen like you get with fish scales.

I considered going for a metallic finish but as I have been painting Necron-y, Terminator-y things for a while now I wanted a break from metallics.  So I went for more of a swamp-man look than a mer-man look.

I'm confused, are these from Citadel molds that the Perry's brought with them (like Bretonians) over to Foundry?

They look alot like the fishmen I've never seen in person or on ebay, only seen the fuzzy pic on Stuff of Legends.

Yep. Foundry recently mastered a new mould by using castings from an old mould that they had in storage. The old mould was mainly Citadel historical stuff that transferred to Foundry years ago, but it also included these fishmen.

These figures are new castings of the figures shown on SoL.

They're based on FF65-2 Ferocious Man-Fish - see the Stuff of Legends.

"Alex (who normally does our mail orders) has painted a pair of the fishmen we gave away to anyone who turned up on the 15th." doesn't sound like something they're planning to put on sale.

Sort of makes you wish you'd had been in the neighborhood. Or, at least, the same hemisphere.

Very interesting trick. I have thought about doing that in non fish related instance but was not sure wether or not it would work. Thanks for the trick.
