A Fantasy Diorama in seven days.
« on: December 16, 2012, 02:02:34 PM »
Over at the Forum of Doom, there is a competition that has been running for the last three months called the Unofficial Diorama of Doom. Here are all of the details and WIP threads:

http://forum-of-doom.com/index.php?board=72.0

Now, I wasn't going to put one together but at the last minute, I decided to try and make one from start to finish in 7 days.

Bear in mind that:

  • I don't usually do anything fantasy
  • I have never made a diorama before
  • I only have seven days to do it

So I started first thing this morning with a few miniatures from my collection and what I had to hand. This is the start of "The quest for Second Breakfast":

Then a little later:

A little later still:

And now just waiting for things to dry before the next bit:

Unfortunately, I quickly realised that I couldn't squeeze all of the Hellmites onto the base so a couple were left out. A lot of the details/texture will be painted on.

I just need to sculpt food on the table, add a rope to get up the column with and do a bit of gap filling and everything will be ready for paint :).

Wow, that's ambitious. You look like you've got a good start, though. Good luck! :)

Cheers :) .

I've just got to finish the food on the table and add some pins to the mites and everything will be ready for paint/texturing:

Fantastic!  :)

Is it me, or does the base look like some sort of cyborg un-happy face?!

Fantastic work, Inso.
Stunning progress.
 :-*

I can sympathise with the time constraints, doing something similar myself.

Watching with interest.

I hope you don't finish it... because it'll be better than mine  ;)
Seriously though, it's looking good. The chicken looks tasty.

I had a couple of days off to paint some other stuff but I got back to things today and have finished two of the main characters; Mystic Mike and Bernard Foxbain:

Just Spiky Pete and some tinkering to go now :)
