Small feet no hatch - and definately clear/smoked top with visible interior! :)

Gotta say I am with Kev on this one.
All of his points pretty much nail it for me.

Hmmm, this was meant to be a fairly quick & simple project.  ::)

Opinion here and on the Crooked Dice forum seems to split into two camps:  VSF style with hatch and big feet or 'Alienesque' with no hatch and small feet.

I do like the idea of a crew interior, but it makes the build more complicated.  Also, the clear top would look a bit odd.  Although you could rationalise it as being some kind of 'force shield'.

Is it going to have some sort of death ray projectile weapon?
Yes, although my initial thought for doing so does look a bit phallic.  :o

I'm considering adding tendrils/arms that could be fitted or removed, as required.  Its also been suggested I could build a 'harvester' basket to go with it.  I may end up building more than one option at this rate.

You know that there are going to be requests to get this cast up, right?
Possibly.  The main body wouldn't be a problem, but the legs are big (22cm from ground to knee joint); possibly prone to warping in resin and too heavy (& expensive?) in metal.

Split in two camps, you say...?

You will just have to build one of each, then, wont you?
 :D

As for casting options: Maybe you could do a version with shorter legs for the masses....  ???

If the main components were cast, i.e. the body/thorax, and the main leg joints and feet, then the individual modeller can fit the tubing for the legs themselves, reducing the casting costs whilst still retaining the potential for 12" plus models.

Well, you picked the wrong forum for that  lol

I would suggest even smaller or no feet and round off the end of the acrylic rod which would possibly work even better.

For the hatch, how about just a styrene sheet cut to an appropriate shape and stuck on top, the thinner the sheet the better?

Oh, and I second or third the call for a visible interior  :D

Should be easy enough, build the interior cock pit and mask out the area that will be left clear  ;)

cheers

I'm with Jimbibbly, even smaller feet and a simpler hatch in fitting with the aesthetic look of the model.

It's a cracking looking model Paul and tentacles would give it a great War of the Worlds look. Goes without saying I'd have a couple.

To be honest, I don't think there's an inexpensive way to cast and sell a tripod of this quality.

If I can be really picky (and this is a first when it comes to your work) I dont think that's a good spot for the gun. Apart from looking a bit phallic it has the potential to melt the legs of the tripod when fired.

Don't!

I agree with the small or no feet crowd, but I think a hatch would be neat. I would like to see a hatch that looked like a raised oval or recessed circle instead of a classic fly-wheel and rivets look. Also, what about a hatch mounted on the underside of the body and the gun mounted on top?

Great, now I want to make my own tripod. Damn...

After many months of almost no painting, building or gaming I have finally regained my mojo and got a few more 7TV miniatures finished.

The Military Minions are mostly Crooked Dice minions, but with a TLS headswap.  They join the 4 small-arm minions completed a year or so ago.

Commander/General (Copplestone Future Wars)

Grenadier & SMGs

Sniper/Sergeant/Dog Handler

The sniper is an Akula miniature with Crooked Dice TLS headswap

Heavy Weapons:

Reloads case built from plastic rod & strip

Military Minions:

I have also painted up a conversion using a 'Man from 2000' body and the head I had cut off a Copplestone FW "suit", to convert Lazarus Darke previously:

No specific cast in mind, so currently referred to as Dr X.  Rather pleased with how he turned out :)
