Getting my girlfriend into minis and need help.
« on: January 16, 2013, 02:45:54 PM »
Ok my girlfriend into minis and I need help. She hate the barbiedoll look and  lets face it a lot of female miniatures out their are a little offbalence do to there anatomy or they are wearing less clothing then most porn-stars. She has agreed to make a pulp alley band and wants to make it out of women. I have a few Anima tactics females lying around that fit her group formula for marshal arts  females the only thing is several are.. oddly shaped and under dresss, what is the best way to fix that?
Cheers,
Daniel

Perhaps you could post a photo of the issue?  My immediate answer would be:  buy some miniature files to removes excess cleavage and buy some some green stuff to add clothing!  Bob Murch sells putty on his website

My wife had a problem with the cleavage of a bretonian damsel.
She's (wait, make that was, when she still painted for those 3 months) planning simply painting some clothing where there's none sculpted.

Main issue is with the breast sizes, they make barbie look well proportioned.

I think the issue is that you've chosen to use a range of models that is based on an artistic style that is deliberately exaggerated in a way that doesn't fit what you're after. You might try using more appropriate models which will save you a lot of frustration.

A good example (in that they look attractive but are still realistic and modest) is Statuesque Miniatures. I can vouch for their quality as I own most of them! There are lots of good-looking models that are suitable/appropriate however, and you should probaly invest some time in having a bit of a search yourself for anything that you think your girlfriend would find appealing.

But, failing that, filing down the Anima Tactics figures' assets and painting them as figure-hugging cloth or sculpting over the area is your only option if you want to stick with the models you have. Given the size of the models though, I don't envy you!

I'm afraid it depends a lot on the type of project you are aiming for. The Anima Tactics minis have a quite specific aesthetics, halfway between manga and steampunk, with all what that implies (I'm talking just about design, they're really fine minis).
Greenstuff is probably the best choice here.
You could also have a look at the sci-fi range in Shadowforge, for example, and see if you like anything else.
I was to recommend Statuesque too, but Maj. Gilbear beated me! :) Great choice that.

Never let her see the Kingdom Death girls ;).

I did look around but she is no sure if minis is for her so she does not want to spend money on the hobby, which is why I was going to be using the anima tactics suff, though if it is cheaper/easier to buy new minis I will and just glaze over any costs  ;D. I never really played anima but when I saw them in a stores bargin bin for a dollar a fig I grabbed them.
cheers,
Daniel

Has she looked through the artizan thrilling tales and copplestone ranges? A lot of their lady's are more realistic.

But could not make the sickle yield."

Wow Kingdom of Death is insulting to men as well as women. I know no men with that many musles, it is a little on the grotesque side.
I will have to check copplestone and pulp minis again when I get my pulp stuff. I do have enough stuff to make a nice evil group but I need to order some heros (Royal Canadian Mounted police). The setting we are using is back of beyond so the marshal arts girls work great and I will likely be spending a fair amount of time resqulpting and painting if I end up using the Anima.
Cheers,
Daniel

Well, I guess it depends on your sensibilities! I personally find that the cheap shots of stuff like Comfy Chair Games' "Spinespur" or Taban Miniatures' Matriarchy and Jokers factions for their game "EDEN" are more offensive than nude/exaggerated physiques for example, but there you go!  :P

Copplestone and Pulp Minis both have some good stuff, as do Foundry. If you want some pulpy sci-fi, try the Valkeeri models by Hydra (you can paint the flesh areas shown on the official models as full jumpsuits easily, and the models have a nice proportion to them).

Also, you might try running a light RPG-type game with a couple of other friends instead of a skirmish game. There is less pressure to know the rules (as there is a GM to guide), the social aspect is helpful, and there is only one/two minis required each (so you can afford to get whatever model you want quite easily compared to a whole squad).

Just some thoughts anyway.  ;)

Probably not pulp minis but www.hfminis.co.uk do some of the best realistic women around. There are a lot of scantily clads but the sci fi troops are really good.
