Suitable Rules For LRDG Raid Games?
« on: January 22, 2013, 08:27:03 AM »
One of my plans for this year is to do LRDG raid games in 28mm (my LRDG force will be three trucks and a couple of jeeps). What rules would people recommend for this size of game?

Many thanks in advance,

Mick

Er, Nuclear Renaissance? Its a skirmish level game with a strong character and vehicle construction system. Its post apoc in theme, but pretty much generic enough. Free to download.

Wouldn't shooting in Nuclear Renaissance be to strong? Ranged weapons seem to pretty effective in the game. The are limited by their high cost and the sample armylists in NR only have very few ranged weapons. In WW2 every soldier has a ranged weapon and so I'd fear they might drop like flies once the shooting starts?

Hi Mick
The first draft of Rapid Fire has a nice LRDG raid scenario. It has adaptions from the main rules included

Thanks for the replies. I've downloaded Nuclear Renaissance and will give them a read through, I have 2nd edition Rapid Fire but will see if I can find a 1st edition somewhere, and I've tried Bolt Action but didn't enjoy the games I played (my copy of them will be on the PAW Plymouth bring and buy a week Saturday...).

We have done LRDG and other Commando style games very successfully with the free "Red Poppy, White Feather" rules.
They use some of the Crossfire mechanisms regarding fluid initiative and but have more of a "traditional" feel. They allow some degree of characterisation to individuals through the use of abilities so your teams can have specialist sappers, scouts, radiomen etc.

Great little set of rules that really deserve a re-release.

Well, guns can be pretty good in the hands of a hero, but if using the "goon"profile they are quite naff. Maybe agree on an amount to be spent on guns out side of the character and vehicles?

Im nearly finished on an expansion for NucRen that adds loads of stuff. One thing it adds is a "goon gun", a low powered low cost low effect weapons. It also adds rules ofr units of the military kind, so making units of troopers is a doddle. If anyone is interested in readig, error checking or  playing it, please pm me.
