A Pinkerton list?
« on: April 05, 2008, 09:52:59 AM »
Has anyone written a pinkerton list before?

We are about to start a campaign in our club and me being who I am purchased Artizans fantastic new Pinkerton miniatures and insisted they have a list and were not on the guns for hire table.

After watching Deadwood series 3, how could they not be used more often!!!

Please find the list our Campaign leader came up with.

What do you think? I already gasped at the prices but he justified them with the extra pluck and abilities. Comments welcome.

Pinkerton List

Posse special rules:

All Pinkertons have the “Jurisdiction” and “Life is cheap” special rules.

The player who fields a Pinkerton posse does not have to pay a retainer fee or hiring fee as for a Hired Gun but see “Wanted back at Head Office special rule below.

“Wanted Back at Head Office” – although the agency in Aftermath has been given a generous amount of money to set up this is not inexhaustible! If the Pinkerton Agency fails to raise any cash other than its basic rate during a month (game) in which it is active then the controlling player must roll for each of his heroes: on a roll of “1-2” the Hero has been called back East to explain the lack of productivity and will be unavailable the following month.

Captain $42 - hero

S   F   St   G   A   W   P   FA   FT
4+   4   3   4   1   2   5   2   1

Fearsome reputation

Leader

May use any of the equipment from the Lawmen Hero’s equipment list (at those prices).

Starts with 8 Experience points.

Detective $28 - hero

S   F   St   G   A   W   P   FA   FT
4+   3   3   3   1   1   4   1   0

Fearsome reputation

May use any of the equipment from the Lawmen Hero’s equipment list (at those prices).

Starts with 6 Experience points.

Rookie Agent $16 - henchman

S   F   St   G   A   W   P
4+   3   3   3   1   1   3

May use any of the equipment from the Lawmen Henchmen equipment list (at those prices).

A little bit imbalanced. So I go and hire a Prospector, Card Ace and Pugilist als well as 5 other hired guns...

I'll surely win the game and will also get some extra money...

EDIT: Limit the Hired Guns to one model with a hiring fee below 25$ and it would be a nice idea
Far less active than I used to...

When I fleshed out  a Pinkerton posse I basically used the Texas ranger list and gave them the 'life is cheap' special rule and knocked 1 point off each fighters pluck value. I also removed the special Texas ranger 'head for the hills' rule.

I found that this gave access to decent equipment and also the sort of posse make-up I thought Pinkertons would have. Hired Pinkerton agents, backed up, if necessary, by deputised citizens (more thugs).

Also, remember Pinkertons in this time span (as depicted in Deadwood) were little more than hired thugs, so they're not going to hang around when the shooting starts.

I like Ray's Pinkerton list, very believable and playable.
Lee, why have you given the Detective 6 experience? No other list that I have seen, has a character other than the leader with experinece.

I did not write the list Tim a friend and games master of our campaign did at our club.

I like yourselves have doubts over it.

I'll have a look at the texas rangers list Ray.

Your quite right about the pinkertons being hired thugs, they were certainly that in Deadwood.
