25mm Prince August Home Cast Goblins

I cast these goblins last summer and painted them up last week.  I like how they turned out.  I am considering basing them on US pennies.

As Scurv already mentioned, these guys look like old sculpts (old school sculpts!) which I like a lot  . Great paint job, these guys are awesome.

Oh these are old sculpts indeed. I remember casting these like 30 years ago in my garage way back when i was a kid. Using lead from all sorts of sources for my molds. I had a ton of these already done up.
I also had other molds as well. I think skeletons and there was one other mold i had. I would have to go look at the PA site to know which.
Ah, the good old funbuthighlydangerouscauseofthemoltenleadinmygarage days.  :-)

Same here, this is how I began with miniatures.

Talcolm powder in the mould, melting the metal bars, pouring it in , tapping the air out, waiting a few minutes and then seeing what you have. If it doesn't come out right remenlt it and do it again.

I remember the minis being very basic in detail, but it was a lot of fun.

I did these too... as my dad had an auto repair shop at the time I used the expensive Prince August bars mixed up with tire weights. Yay, health hazard! 

Even if you used only the fine metal purchased in the hobby shop, the models would come out a little soft in the detail. I was about 10 years at the time though, I'm sure an adult would get better results by controlling the heat of the molten lead. Also, the models are a tad small. 25mm, not heroic at all.

Scurv: The process is simple. Powder the split mold with talcum powder, clamp it together and pour in the molten metal. Move the mold about a bit and then wait for the metal to cool.

Ah the memories . A friend bought these molds from the UK back in the early 90's. Skellies, orcs and these. Nice pj. Like these vintage models.

Those lead weights from tires would be what I would use to cast because they are everywhere here. I take it when melting and casting a gas mask is a good move? Not to mention standard stuff like leather gloves and saftey boots.

I did it on the hob in the kitchen, probably wearing nothing but my pyjamas.

I have one of the newer elf molds (28mm) and the detail is much better on them. For casting you get better results with high quality metal.  I have made my own moulds for shields which work quite well.
