Do you find it easier to work with styrene over real wood (balsa)?

Well, it depends on the job. Both materials have their qualities, but I find it easier to work with styrene when it comes to small and exactly dimensioned items. I use balsa and other wood for miniature buildings, for example, using the wood grain for effect.

Agree your model is very nice but do hope you will include the tacks that hold the canvas roof in place, maybe just paint them in.  Good job.

Unfortunately I have another problem: the wagon represents the original from the film only with the ornamental writing on the sides. The quality and resolution of the internet pics won't let you knock out the background to isolate the slogan and transfer it to transparent decal sheet, so this plan won't work. Handpainting would be possible, but too time-consuming. Any other ideas, chaps?

How about pinching something similar from the net?

Never really used styrene for wood at any size but I see a lot of people doing it. I suppose it's what you're used to

Find a solution for the wagon's ornamental writing: did it myself in good old Corel Draw with some help from the net. It's not 100% the same, but near enough for me:



The background appears white here, but it's transparent. Now I'll buy some transparent decal sheet and then try to print it. Never done this before, so I'm a bit excited about this technique.

Ok, if you painted the wooden sides on the wagon first, is there a way of making your sign into a decal without the white background? and use it that way, im sure I saw a youtube vid somewhere explaining how? then you could hide the sheen of the decal with dullcoat spray.

Would that be an option?

Well, I'm pretty sure that they will get 28 mm love soon; from sculpting to selling the casted miniatures you'd need some time. I'm looking for Brigade Games eventually who also did the non-Deadwood characters ...

I have three sheets of unused print-your-own-decals for ink jet. No need for those myself as don't have an inkjet printer. Will happily send them to you in case you have use for them? Of course your project would need to stall a bit for waiting those to arrive.
