Very tough, as both are so good in their own painting style. So I was quite surprised about the clear voting in favour of the conquistadores. Must have something to do with the more "adventure"-feeling of them?

I think it's more a "color" matter, a kind of bonus for the "Wow" effect (which I love personally), thinking, right or not, it's harder to get than a more neutral and realistic uniform.

And another one with some cool Conquistadores - maybe a bit late to go with Aztects, but who cares? Very good choice of colours on these and superb blacklining.
This one is a bit easier for me, because I really don't like modern soldiers. Sorry, just a matter of taste, I know.

Thanks all. I agree, the marines are excellent. Love the red goggles.

To answer a couple of points...

Yes, the 'Spaniards' are way too late for historically accurate conquistadors - but hang it all, they just look so darn Hollywood in their morions.

The sword and daggerman is an Old Glory figure. A bit crude, but he has the all important morion!

The others are Foundry sea-dogs, although interestingly, the big chap at the front prodding with the halberd is a never-released figure, which I bought unpainted off eBay a couple of weeks ago. I hope to be picking up a few more of these unique (?) Mike Owen sculpts imminently... Don't ask me why Foundry never put them into production. Something about arse and elbow springs to mind...

The Aztecs are from The Assault Group. They are quite small - true 25mm's. Truthfully, they're not that great, missing small details like thumbs on the open hands! But they paint up quite nicely.
