4Ground's Horse Cart
« on: February 16, 2013, 02:21:19 AM »
I picked up one of 4Ground's laser-cut Horse Carts in a recent order from Brigade Games; it was so nice I yanked it out of the package the same evening I got it and popped it together.

Here it is as it comes out of the ziplock baggie:

I didn't really time the assembly process, so let's just say "not long at all", including pauses for photographs, faffing around and deciding which caveman to pose alongside the finished cart. It's 15 pieces, in three sub-assemblies, and everything clicks together cleanly and easily with a few dots of glue to secure it.

Finished, the cart is about 3.5" long (2" of body, then the arms/harness bits that hold the horse in place) and 1" tall; 2" wide across the wheel hubs. Just enough laser-engraved detail to make it look nice, and the price is great, especially compared to resin or pewter carts.

There's some more details over on the Warbard.

I saw these at Vapnartak and was VERY tempted. I'm beginning to wish based on this I had bought one. It simply isn't worth trying to make your own and I say that as an inveterate scratch builder. What I would DO with it if I bought one is irrelevant! lol
Measure with a micrometer, mark with chalk, cut with an axe, hammer to fit, paint to match!

The main barrier to scratchbuilding wagons and such is those fiddly wheels... that said, 4Ground now also produce sets of laser-cut 28mm wheels so you can scratchbuild all the wagon & cart bodies you desire and use 4Ground's very nice wheels to finish them off.

Yeah, I had got round that by buying cast metal wheels from Irregular Miniatures, although the cleanup of all the spokes is a nightmare. Even then, I struggle to not try to make everything as near in scale as possible, which makes the end result very, very fragile.

In the whole I think I'll just buy the things now if temptation gets the better of me!

I own a few of the carts and they are worth every penny and they are great fun to put together.

I have just built the cart and wagon by 4GROUND, the best laser cut kits I have worked on so far. Perfect fit, well designed and instruction sheet with step by step photo's.

Right job done. You've sold them to me, as mean as I am. I want some carts for a Dux Brittaniarum skirmish. I'm not building them myself. I'll buy them in.
