Help me to find a "dwarfish-ogre"!
« on: 17 February 2013, 04:19:12 PM »
Hello guys,
I'm desperately searching for a ogre for my mordheim dwarf warband.
I'd really like to find a ogre with the following requirements:

1- it has to be "dwarfish". I do not know exactly what this means...Let say that It has to look proper in a warband of old-school marauder dwarf...Maybe a viking/nordic touch? For sure not a reinassance ogre.
For example, I think that the Rackham Mountain Warrior looks pretty "dwarfish":

2- it has preferably to be an old school miniature.

Hope someone of you can help me in this quest! I think I'm in the right place to ask :)
Thanks in advance!

Faber

Try looking for a Dwarf Giant, you may get more joy.
 ;)

Our very own Professor W painted this Dwarf Giant that may well work, although it may be a little large for your needs:

What about this Stonehaven Troll?

A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://tistaminis.com/

That is one nice troll :o
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

For a somewhat older mini- Mirliton/ old Grenadier (it's probably the beard that makes me think of him as dwarfish):
http://www.mirliton.it/product_info.php?pName=duncan-the-legend&cName=fantasy-2528mm-barbarians

Not nearly as old, but wearing a horned helmet:

or

Depending how you paint him, the Heresy Ogre- again, not really that old- should work well as a dwarfish Mordheim Ogre (maybe add a dwarven shield to the back).

Or this big guy from Fenris Games (can't get the link to work, so either copy & paste the link or search for 'FGWM01 - Ted Knuckles, half giant' on the shop site) :

That dwarf snow giant the Prof painted is just brilliant, and I can see Faber fitting it in really well with his Mordheim dwarf gang!

Store link: http://fenryll.com/en/551-frost-giant-dwarf.html - and it's on sale at the moment  ;)

Thanks Mason, this could fit into the style I'm searching for, but...it's a giant!  :'(
I know, there are lots of dwarf giants...but it's not easy to find a dwarfish ogre...
PS: that dwarf unit with the giant is a real eyecandy  :-*

thanks Calimero: indeed a wonderful troll, but defintely too "monstruos" for my needings... :(

Thanks pal. Not a bad selection. I pretty like the mirliton one: maybe swapping the weapons and with some minor conversion he could be the one. The hasslefree ones aren't that bad too, but a little too "new" to fit my warband... :)
The fenris one is a bit too big and I don't like at all the heresy one....

Thanks Mr Rab :) Unfortunately, as said, a 12cm tall giant is a bit too big for a ogre (and for Mordheim, imo)
Anyway, I think that I'm going to buy that giant...it's too cool!  :-*

thanks for help guys...Very useful suggests, even if I am nt totally convinced yet... Keep going, if you have more. :)

Something from Ral Partha?

Shop link
Prof link

I don't think they're that chaotic. A skull or two here and there but overall they might count as dwarvish. Fit approximately on 25mm bases so not too large, yet shouldn't be mistaken for anything else than an ogre in a dwarf warband. Old school too.

I like those, Dolmot! The one on the right, particularly with a greenstuff-ed longer beard would look pretty dwarfish, in my eyes at least.

These are great ogres sculpted by Bob Olley. I will respectfully disagree with you on them fitting on a 25mm base.
Here are the ones I've done bases is 40mm http://imp522shouseofwargaming.blogspot.com/2011/01/some-ral-partha-ogres.html

I will respectfully disagree with you on them fitting on a 25mm base.

Their feet generally fit on 25mm but it requires chopping the integral base first. I've done that to a few ogres and trolls of that line. Won't fit as-is, that's true, and making a full ranked unit could become problematic. Nevertheless, both options are available if you don't mind a bit of modelling work.

(I guess Mordheim ogres use 40mm or "whatever fits" and it's a skirmish game so the whole point is largely moot.)

I've literally just primed the chap on the left with the intention of painting him (and a companion) this week. Lovely models. I'll post 'em up when done.
