Old West Starter Sets 28mm

Hi all, 

Looking to introduce my young son into mini gaming. I wanted to do a western city as a start. Any suggestions on good starter sets for:
1) Cowboys
2) Civilians
3) Indians

I saw on TMP that Foundry have a sale on their figures right nw...25% off. I have many of those figures. Easy and fun to paint. Good luck....

How young is young?  If he's quite young, a barrel/box of cowboys and indians from the toy store could be a really easy start (and dirt cheap to boot).

If you want to "test the waters" and want your figures 28mm and painted you could do worse than pick up some pre-painted figures from Doug @ em-4 (em4miniatures.com).

They're available in packs of 5

Set #1 - Sheriff; Gambler; Gunslinger; Mexican and an Indian.

Set #2 - Buffalo Soldier; Mountain Man; Soiled Dove; Farmer and a another Sheriff

and Set #2 comes with rules and a town plan on a CD.

If you don't like the rules you at least have a variety of figure types to be able to try out other "downloadable" rulesets.

The other alternative for pre-paints would be to check-out the Bazaar here on LAF as I know that v_lazy_dragon has a few painted "cowboys" which may fit your needs.

I'll have to throw in a ditto here too, I use the EM-4 sets to teach my students.

I would agree the EM-4 Prepainted stuff is a great start, if it falls through you have not invested much time or effort into it.

Foundry and Knuckleduster makes some great lines of figures. If the Foundry sale is going on that is a pretty good deal on their sets. The only problem is investing painting, rules and extra money that may not work out from what you are saying.
